I like what you have done there Phil and your advice re: the ceiling. What did blasting the walls to expose the aggregate do for you? Also, I notice you have a bare concrete or epoxied (?) floor. Did your ceiling treatment address the first reflections from the floor?
Thank you for your responses Cellcbern and pjwd. Your points are well taken. i still need to do a deep dive re: DHDI ZR Acoustics.
I have no plans to reduce my planned room size of 17’x23’x10’. I spent a good amount of time playing with the amroc Room Mode Calculator and those dimensions seem...
i realize that the three posts above contain a lot of information. I broke it down below into 9 points that I think are the main thrust of their recommendation:
1) “The more isolation you build into the walls, ceiling and floor of your room, the worse your room is going to sound inside.”
2)...
Part 3 of GIK response:
Soffit bass trap will be the best sized devices for your corners. Size matters across the board with acoustic panels. The bigger and thicker they are, the lower they will work. The more you get the low end in your room right, the better your translation will be. Nothing...
Part 2 of GIK response:
Generalities:
The best panel is the thickest panel. Always. There is never a scenario where acoustically something thinner (working on narrow high reflective frequencies only) is the right choice; acoustically. When full range audio (more than just a human voice) is...
Sorry for going dark but have been doing some research in the background as time allows.
I contacted GIK acoustic, filled out their form, and below is the initial response I received:

The “first thing” you’re thinking...
Hugh, you described the GIK panels you used as “diffuser/ absorption panels“, but for clarity, were the GIK panels your tried fronted with their optional membrane or wooden diffusor plates and, if so, which design were they (range limiter, scatter plate, or ?)...
Thanks MarkusBarkus. I am in the final stages of talking with a local home remodeler that has designed and built sound studios and done acoustical design and installation in churches. He clearly understands that I am not interested in building a sound studio And seems to understand the...
Thanks for the recommendation Brucemk2. Has anyone had any experience with rectangular rooms built with non-parallel walls or sloping ceilings? Is there a benefit to either?
Thank you Hugh. I reviewed your entire thread on your room build and was quite awed by it. Spectacular to say the least!
Did you do any acoustical room measurement after you completed the room?
Thank you Hugh and Cellcbern and (again) MarkusBarkus for your helpful replies. I participated in a call with Dennis @acousticfields.com this afternoon as I had already scheduled it and wanted to hear what he had to say. He was friendly and helpful and came across to me as one who knows what he...
A very sincere thank you to Mike Lavigne and to MarkusBarkus for the immediate and helpful responses. I read through the thread Mike provided and there are some obvious reasons for concern.
MarkusBarcus, I will contact Norman and see what he has to say about my project.
Again, please accept my...
I am preparing to build a two channel listening room in my basement. Planned dimensions are 17’X23’X10’. Perfect chance to get it right since it is to be built from scratch. One chance if you will.
I have some experience with velocity traps (absorption), enough to know that when using typical...
