Preamp with MM/MC phonostage built in - Options

Just a bit over your budget is the Luxman CL-38Uc. http://www.luxman.com/product/detail.php?id=27

Great turntables are a wasted resource without isolation.

I use a Vibraplane, and if it worked in my budget I would have a Herzan or other active isolation platform.

what would YOU choose over Artisan Fidelity?

Emt If Artisan can drill and mount the EMT arm you should have no problem. Regardless of the arm, based on your comments about the sound you like, you should listen to an EMT JSD s75 or other similar cartridge. It has the powerful bass you are looking for as well as defined highs. The...

what would YOU choose over Artisan Fidelity?

EMT is a consideration If you are considering the Garrard 301, a great arm/cartridge combination to consider is the EMT 997 tonearm and EMT JSD s75 cartridge.

    Hierachy in the analogue chain

Based on my personal experience, yours may be different, I would rank importance in the following order: Tonearm Turntable Phono Stage Cartridge I had a Basis 2000 turntable (just above their entry level) with a Basis branded tonearm, and changing from the Rega to a Basis Vector tonearm made...

Repair an old GyroDec or replace?

I don't think you can make a big improvement for $1,500. Why don't you just replace the motor instead of upgrading the turntable? If you change your mind later you can sell the turntable without being buried in it cost-wise. The SME tonearm is still a great tonearm, so I would not replace The...

KT 77 Tubes instead of EL34 or 6CA7's

I am currently using Gold Lion KT-77 tubes in my Quicksilber V-4 amplifiers and like the sound better than the JJ EL-34 tubes I was using. I have had them in there for a while and they have held bias and been reliable.

    Nordost SORT FUT

Thanks for your response. I have used the Sort Kone TC under my SME 10 turntable with a very positive effect, and have been considering the Sort Fut under my speakers. I think I will give them a try

Yamaha did this in the late 70's and early 80's, so interesting, but something done before, and not the first as claimed

    Aesthetix Rhea Verses the Signature

For the V5 position I am using super low noise 6922 tubes from tubeaudiostore.com. The V1 - V4 positions are 7058 tubes The same as a 12AX7 but with a 13.5 volt non-tapped filament. It can be used in circuits which do not utilize the 6.3V filament tap. Performance is same as regular 12ax7...

    Aesthetix Rhea Verses the Signature

I am using NOS RCA 12AX7. These were recommended by Andy at Vintage Tube Services, who was recommended to me by Aesthetix. I am currently using a Shelter 901 and Sumiko Pearwood Celebration II both with .5 mv output. The NOS tubes made a significant difference in sound quality and noise level...

    Aesthetix Rhea Verses the Signature

Sparky, I have an Aesthetix Rhea also and was wondering whether you upgraded to the Rhea Signature, If so, what was our experience? Are you using stock tubes? I tried those but I am now using RCA 12AX7 tubes sourced from Vintage Tube Services. Changing to these tubes lowered the noise...
