Hi
Very sadly, one of my beautiful Vivid G2 piano black gloss speakers was knocked over causing a couple of deep gauges and some smaller scratches on the outside of the enclosure. The gauges were caused by hitting against metal parts of other gear and are roughly 1/4" to 1/2" wide and less than 1/8" deep into the fiberglass.

I live in regional Australia so access to specialized repairers is limited other than auto panel shops, furniture restorers etc. Transport issues would make DIY preferable but I'm guessing not really possible for a great finish?

Appreciate any advice on expert repairs, especially the type of paint and finish to make it as "invisible as possible.

Cheers
David

The material used in Vivid speakers resembles motorcycle fairing material. If I were you, I would search for a professional motorcycle workshop.
They should be able to resolve the issue or refer you to someone skilled in repairing motorcycle fairings. This is a relatively straightforward fix, although you may need to bring the speakers to them for the best results (ones where you'd never know an accident had occurred).

Yeah, thanks, it would appear to be some sort of 'plastic' based resin coating maybe like on motorbike fairings as you say. Possibly like polyester resin used on piano black pianos or similar to boats' gelcoat top layer.Hopefully someone knows the exact material and has done a repair on a Vivid

How unfortunate! I too would like to hear an expert answer on scratch repairs. Have you tried contacting Vivid directly? Philip is pretty responsive.

Will do. When it first happened was so upset that just jumped on to Vivid Forum to see if someone could reassure me of a similar problem that was fixed. Still keen to hear any experiences and solutions

If you do get some useful repair advice, from Vivid or elsewhere, I would be most interested in hearing it. Likewise if you choose to do the repainting yourself. Wish you the best of luck with your repairs. (G3 owner)

A quick update. Phil G and Vivid Audio have been completely awesome in extending assistance and advice. I have corresponded with their paint expert John C re the Vivid finish and options for repair. Basically it is an automotive paint process based on PPG base coat and clear. In the right hands, a fairly simple fix. For the various options and specific to your Vivids' paint and color I suggest contacting Vivid.
