    Phasemation PP-2000 vs. Dynavector XV-1t

A short news is that I got a demo if the Phasemation PP-500 paired with the EA-1200 from the same brand, and it was … a pure musical bliss. One incredible moment in audiophile life. I could not imagine what this really expensive Phono stage could deliver with the higher end PP-2000. Since this...

    Phasemation PP-2000 vs. Dynavector XV-1t

Hi there, I also own (since a few days only..) a Phasemation cart ie. their PP-500 model. I have read that the PP-2000 was launched first, then they derived the PP-500 out of it. The PP-1000 is an older design, as far as I understand the various iterations of the Phasemation cartridges. I...

I have two PC server sources: * one advanced DiY (i5 w/ 6-cores) with JCAT Ethernet card, Windows Server 2016 and Roon (plus MinorityClean and Process Lasso 'enhancers' software) * another one is a simple NUC (i3 w/ 2-cores) with Windows 10, Audirvana (plus MinorityClean & Process Lasso as...

Looking for a Turntable & Tonearm combo; which one ?

This TT is interesting as well; however I though it was much more expensive with the matching arm. Maybe I was wrong in my assumption. From the various auditions @ Munich Show I'm not certain this is the sound I'm looking for ... Maybe a bit lean and "lacking some meat on the bone" as we like...

Grazie mille for these info. I keep that in my head if ever I would opt for the WB Circle 25 or another model.

Looking for a Turntable & Tonearm combo; which one ?

Nice turntable indeed. And not crazily expensive. Thanks for reminding me of the Anniversary 25 version.

Looking for a Turntable & Tonearm combo; which one ?

Dear Vinyl friends. I do have a good number of vinyls but have sold my venerable LINN LP12 + Ittok + NAIN Armageddon many years back. I quite regret this decision now... I'm looking for a turntable and matching tonearm combo, which work well together and with the following imperative...

Nagra PLL/VPS/Jazz owners, have you tried the Nagra MPS - I have

Thanks once again. Good and interesting to know the nice pairing of dCS DAC and Nagra preamp !

Nagra PLL/VPS/Jazz owners, have you tried the Nagra MPS - I have

Thanks again/merci jfrech, If I get the Nagra Classic it is my firm intention to have the balanced transformers on the outputs. For the preamp inputs this is less essential as my dCS Vivaldi DAC can provide a quality single ended signal on its RCA sockets. ;-) The “Nagra itch” is affecting...

Nagra PLL/VPS/Jazz owners, have you tried the Nagra MPS - I have

Thank you jfrech, I think I remember you tried the Classic preamp in your system before acquiring the HD model. Was this Classic unit equipped with these balanced transformers for both Inputs and Outputs ? My JMF Audio amplifier is very much designed to match with a preamplifier providing a...

Nagra PLL/VPS/Jazz owners, have you tried the Nagra MPS - I have

Hi Guys, I might soon get a Nagra Classic preamp. Has anyone of you tested the benefit of this (costly) MPS separated power supply unit ? The Classic preamp already comes with its own internal poser supply module. I’m also wondering if an ACPS-II external supply could bring any good to this...

    CH vs FM vs MBL

Dear Gian60, may I ask you which preamplifier model/brand do you like the most if not CH ? Nagra HD maybe, to stay with Swiss Made product ?

YG Hailey 2.2, Magico M2 or Avantgarde Duo XD ?

You are very “courageous” to host a demo model of Sonja 2.3 while ordering the 2.2 model ultimately. Clearly your dealer wants to make you jump to the bigger model. The room depth and listening distance you mentioned in another post will probably be in favor of the 2.2 anyway. Testing...

YG Hailey 2.2, Magico M2 or Avantgarde Duo XD ?

Some European YG dealers very much like to pair NAGRA preamp with D'Ag amp(s) to drive the Sonja 2.2. Maybe you can also try a NAGRA pre + LUXMANN amp. ;-) I love NAGRA front-end unit (DAC's & preamps). Unless on very easy load, I'm less fan of Nagra's amps.

    5 year speaker plan

Hi Joeling, Just a "brain dump" ie. no order of preference, I would audition: - Vivid Audio G2 (not as big as the G1, easier for room placement); extremely "coherent" from top to bottom - Rockport Avior II; very good all-rounder for all type of musics - Kaiser Kawero!; very "musical" and...

SoTM 200 Ultra Neo vs dCS Bridge

Dear Martin. I own a Vivaldi DAC with both an USB input and dual AES/EBU inputs too. Actually I use my Network Bridge to feed my DAC with single AES cable. I am pretty certain the AES input of the dCS DAC is significantly better than the USB input. In the past, I had a SOtM PCIe + Clock (into a...

Mark Levinson disappearing AMPS & PREAMPS?

There will always be big fans of the 'vintage' ML gear such as: REF 31(.5), 30(.5), 32, 33H, 33, 20.5, 20.6 and even their little brothers i.e. 38(S), 380(S), 27.5. These ML units are selling super fast on the 2nd hand market and are really good value still today (well, the DAC's don't do...

YG Hailey 2.2, Magico M2 or Avantgarde Duo XD ?

I'm with you Moby regarding Swiss made electronic. I much prefer both NAGRA and CH Precision ultimately. Should I win the lottery, I know what to buy next in term of front-end, LoL ;-)

YG Hailey 2.2, Magico M2 or Avantgarde Duo XD ?

Last comment, I realize the VIVID AUDIO Giya design is not for everyone in term of shape..., however these speakers have almost everything one audiophile could dream of in term of performance and music reproduction. BUT, they need a VERY precise placement in the room with NO electronic racks...

YG Hailey 2.2, Magico M2 or Avantgarde Duo XD ?

Dear Moby, First of all I must say I don't know the newest M2 from MAGICO. But almost all other models from this brand. ;-) I have never found them to sound "lively" ==> thus a lowered musical involvement for me, as you also reported. Worst case is with SOULUTION gear. On the flip side of the...

YG Hailey 2.2, Magico M2 or Avantgarde Duo XD ?

I was also looking in 2015/2016 for a "fluid"/"Liquid" audio reproduction. I ended-up with Rockport speakers !!! Also Kaiser Kawero! are king in this domain ;-) By far the best small real-estate / footprint dynamic speaker that I know of... If you can stretch the budget, this is a real top of...

    Balanced-Unbalanced

Hi Adam, I would not recommend a hybrid cable doing unbalanced => balanced connectivity. You can simply use unbalanced RCA cable to connect your DAC to your preamp. The electronic conversion will happen inside the preamp and you will get the balanced signal on the XLR output of your CP-700.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Samsoum, As an owner of the dCS Network Bridge, I can affirm that it should be used with an external clocking system (I do use the Vivaldi's output clock as a reference into the Network Bridge). This is not to say that it could then be equal to a solution using a top-notch server like the...

    Nagra HD Amps

Hi Dave I have not yet been in a demo with the newest Nagra X DAC (I was not in Munich in 2019, but the other years). If you value the unmechanical, effortless sound and fluidity of the musical message, CH is king to my ears. But you can end-up piling-up several boxes (separated PS, clock)...

    Nagra HD Amps

Hi SuperDave, Having the same RP Avior as your’s, you must be in Heaven with the Nagra HD preamp and mono’s. The Avior are a benign load for any amp. When I owned an Accuphase A65, I never exceeded 25W on the meters (on a moderately sized room). For a DAC upgrade my absolute choice would be...
