    Your "World's Best Audio System" . . . 2012 Edition

:rolleyes:Congrats on keeping your system "simple." It's very tough to resist all that peer pressure to buy the most talked about bling in the industry. I agree about Soulution. It needs to be bedazzled with something more. For us dumb Texas rednecks, you think they would slap one of these...

    Frequency Sensitivity of Our Ears

+1 And I must add that it's not just your opinion. There's listening test objective data which demonstrates that's what a statistically significant number of listeners will say they prefer. http://seanolive.blogspot.ca/2009/11/subjective-and-objective-evaluation-of.html?m=1

    Frequency Sensitivity of Our Ears

Mitch's thesis makes a lot of sense. There are so many recordings which have no bass and many of them are rock recordings from the 70s. Were they mastered too loud? Maybe. What if the mastering was done at 100db? Should we be listening that loud for extended periods of time? I try not...

[ANNC] eBook on Accurate Sound Reproduction Using DSP

Thanks Mitch its a great book and has already been helpful to me using Acourate. I've mentioned it here and Amir has lots of questions for you. ;)

    Soundstage Puzzle!

There's no need to guess. Do a sweep of r and l. Then overlay them in the ETC tab in REW. You'll see the differences in early reflections. You can easily identify which reflections are the cause. The ETC will tell you time delay for the reflection. You then just convert to distance and subtract...

2 subs for 2-ch only system in a small room?

Single point can work very well. The key is how late arrivals are windowed. Single point measurements have the advantage of being better suited to correct time domain.

2 subs for 2-ch only system in a small room?

I'm not sure what you mean Amir. You can see that DIRAC's predicted amplitude results are very accurate. http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showthread.php?15212-Dirac-validation The same is true with Audiolense and Acourate as well, IME.

Amir, You'll prolly need to buy one of these new $400 Swenson PSUs to go with your micro rendu. :D http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f27-uptone-audio-sponsored/mystery-revealed-uptone-audio-ultracap%99-linear-power-supply-1-a-28609/#post543155 Don't forget that miscellaneous computer...

    Ceiling Acoustics Question

It is helpful if rooms are symmetrical so that the reflections are consistent between right and left speakers. However, asymmetrical setups can produce excellent results too. Lately, I've been experimenting with with IACC (inter aural cross correlation) as a helpful guide to speaker and...

    Ceiling Acoustics Question

Ceilings produce reflections too. In almost all rooms there will be an Allison effect null from the ceiling at the listening position. This is just like a floor bounce. IME, these very narrow band nulls are less of a problem than one might think. But it would pay dividends to measure with a mic...

Congrats to Amir on his purchase! I bought the John Swenson Regen. I used it once and sent it to Amir. It became a wonderful source of entertainment for months thereafter. It was money well spent. :D

I saw it on Netflix. I loved it as a former drummer. I thought Magini was great. But the latin drummer and the latin conga player were my favorites.

Sonore's microrendu is out - the first audiophile microcomputer?

Jesus sent me an email. He said that it does support MCH via MPD mode. However, it hasn't been tested yet. I use a prism Titan which is UAC class compliant. To me, there's real value in moving my server further away from MLP. If that's possible, I'd consider buying one of these. I'd prolly...

Sonore's microrendu is out - the first audiophile microcomputer?

These "audiophile" NAA or Linux streamers are best characterized by what they do NOT do rather than what they can do. For example, the micro rendu cannot do multichannel. In fact, I'm not aware of any Linux streamer which can do multichannel, even though it should be possible if the endpoint is...

High quality parts used delta-sigma dac vs cheap parts used r2r ladder dac

The precision of the resistors must be very good with R2R. DACs like the emmlabs don't need a precise resistor. So the quality of the resistor isn't very important with EMM DACs. Sigma Delta DACs are also easier to build, so there's a better profit margin.

    ROON and DRC Software

In use Acourate with Roon. If you are only needing 2CH, then Acourate shouldn't be that onerous. I believe all sample rates sound great with Acourate. But if you feel like you don't want any conversion at all, you could try measuring at each sample rate in Acourate. This way, your filter would...

    Introduction to Comb Filter Effects

There are so many names for basically the same thing. Some folks call it comb filtering. Some call it Allison effect and others call it Speaker Boundary Inteference Response ("SBIR"). The so called "floor bounce" is another name for the same effect which the floor produces in just about all...

Audiophile vs. "Music Lover" I'll take a swipe at defining an audiophile by comparing an audiophile with a "music lover" in the words of Joe. The audiophile is mostly concerned with finding recordings which sound great to him/her in the playback chain. The music lover is mostly...

Do it! For me, the JBLs are so wonderful because they open my ears to genres of music I used to think unworthy of playback. With these speakers it's much more about enjoying my listening sessions and having fun with my kids too. My 5 year old son loves dancing to Dillon Francis!
