Recently posted, (March 21, 2024), a review of my new secondary system, which has yet to garner a single response. . Based around Sonus Faber Maxima Amator floor standing speakers. Quite nice, but still sports a rather handsome price tag.
Hello all. I've recently purchased a smaller secondary system I would like to recommend. My wife and I have two small houses. One contains our library and main, full-range audio system. The other. our living quarters, houses our secondary system and is built out over an old pond on a solid...
New Sonus Faber Aida II, a "special edition", has been announced. Features a leather covering on the front, with a SF logo stamped on it. Price: 140,000 Euros, 10% discount if you order before March 31 2024. No idea if there are more upgrades in this "special model," but just putting leather...
How did you like the Aida 2? What else was in the system driving them? Like you, I use Spectral. My audio dealer had doubts about Spectral and Aida. He advocates MacIntosh. I heard the new 451s with the Strads. I was not impressed with the set-up.
Visited KS audio store here in BKK today. KS is the importer of Sonus Faber products. I wanted to audition the Stradivari. Vorathep, the owner, told me that some exciting new products are coming from Sonus. There is a new top model, a four-unit set consisting of two towers -- rather slender...
Those are beautiful rooms at Audio Expert Castle you are going to visit. Looks like they have the Aida II paired with ?? MacIntosh?? Have you heard whether or not Spectral will be releasing a new 400 monoblock? I have the SV preamp and the 400 monoblock reference amps. I'll be eager to read...
Thanks for your response. I use MIT cables with an all-Spectral system. Seems to work but I've not compared them to any other cables. My audio dealer is a Spectral agent and he rather insisted on MIT. I was interested in Spectral 400 mono blocks with the Sonus Aidia II.
Leica film cameras are going up in value -- generally speaking; model, year, condition, all being wild cards -- but Leica digital does not hold its value so well. There are still parts and repair available for Leica film cameras, too. This is what my camera dealer is telling me. I have used...
Rather than hi-fi, buy Leica film cameras. A 1950s - 1960s Leica, manual operation, of course, is worth ten times today what it sold for when new decades ago. But I do prefer my hi-fi when it comes to making music.
Thanks for these recommendations. Like you, I, too, have not taken to streaming. Based in Bangkok, TH, it is sometimes hard for me to keep up with new relases. Your list helps. I go to AllMusic which has a daily listing of new releases. I followed up on all your links. Think I'll try...
Hi Carol;
I was quoting the man himself, Gary Koh, standing in my listening room, looking at my Maestros, telling me they've been discontinued. "So my Maestro speakers are now collector items?" I asked. "They are indeed collector items," he replied. Anyway, thanks for this update and I am...
Carol, can you tell us what the speaker model line-up is going to be for Genesis? I own the Maestro speakers. These are a very good sounding, medium-priced and medium-sized speakers that work in a variety of settings. But Gary tells me he is discontinuing it. Sorry news that is. So, it...
Congratulations on your show at the Pacific Fest. Looks like the room had a positive and energetic buzz going. System sounds nice on my computer speakers which, of course, is a long way from an 'in-the-room' experience. How does the Wand tonearm compare sonically with the new VPI 12" 3-D...
Absolute Sound had a two-part video on the Pacific Audio Fest. Two parts, 25 - 30 minutes each. Not a minute of it devoted to Gary's room. What he had to offer certainly looks impressive. Why no interest in Gary's speakers?
Bought one in January 2023. Traded in an Avenger for it. I use a Dynavector XV-t on the standard 12" fatboy tone arm, redisgned for this new model. As much as I enjoyed the Avenger, this is better.
Gary, I'm just now catching up with this thread: Congratulations on the above 'Positive Feedback' award from the Pacific Audio Fest, and for your new products. Any chance you will be in BKK for an audio show with these new products, the tone arm and the cartridge?
Thanks for posting this. New singer for me. I liked 'Nameless' so much that I just bought the LP, 45 RPM limited edition, from Discogs. Will buy other titles as I see them available.
