The End Of A 35 Year Journey ---Zellaton -The Reference Ultra Final Frontier

Makes sense, thanks for the additional context. Love the couch vs a single chair in the sweet spot too!

The End Of A 35 Year Journey ---Zellaton -The Reference Ultra Final Frontier

Mike, a little off topic, but you mention that your room measures 10 x 20 x 30, which is sort of the worst case scenario for stacking room modes (a rectangle where H, W, and L are multiples of each other) leading standing waves. Since you are apparently getting great sound on the space, could...

Is a "Review" of a Component in an Unfamiliar System in an Unfamiliar Room Really a Review?

One other note worth adding here that arises out of Tom Martin's emphasis on using the word "vivid" in describing what he heard. I recently acquired the same Pilium Olympus pre-amp in use at the Magico demo room, and the Pilium Zues stereo amp, which is from the same product tier as the Pilium...

Is a "Review" of a Component in an Unfamiliar System in an Unfamiliar Room Really a Review?

Exactly! Where I think the scenario we are discussing proves problematic is where one wants to draw comparisons with other speakers that have been heard in a different room with a different reproduction chain. However, since real head to head comparisons largely died with HP, who cares.

Is a "Review" of a Component in an Unfamiliar System in an Unfamiliar Room Really a Review?

Well, at the risk of stepping into a heated discussion, I would suggest that in the context of walking into an unfamiliar room, with unfamiliar source, electronics, cables and speakers, it is still very possible to reach conclusions about the capability of the speakers if the system and room...

This is the post of the year (and yes, we are only 6 days in so the bar is low :-)

    Pilium Audio in action-

I am currently using MIT MAX-SHD between the pre and power amps, but will be rearranging the setup so that I can use Vyda HFC in that spot. I am currently using Vyda between the source and the preamp, but need to move the rack closer to the amp to make the second set of Vyda interconnects that...

    Pilium Audio in action-

HeiHei, Apologies for the very delayed response here. Work has been beyond busy. I think you are on target when you point to the Stern preamp as note being the star of the Audionet Scientist Series show. In point of fact, as noted in my post, I started with just the Olympus preamp from...

Introducing Olympus & Olympus I/O - A new perspective on modern music playback

Emile, as someone getting ready to take delivery of an Olympus, but who would prefer an XLR analogue out, the mention that this feature will be forthcoming in a number of months has me curious whether those who received an earlier Olympus with rca analogue output will be able to retrofit XLR in...

Lampizator Horizon360 - Broadening Our Musical Horizons

It would be useful to know the output of the H1 and H360 when the VC is set to 63 and using XDMI for for the input. My new Pilium Olympus pre specs state 5.6Vrms as the max input for XLR.

Indeed, my observations, as reported in my response to Sonrock, would seem to bear that out.

    Pilium Audio in action-

Sure. The first thing I did was swap out the Stern preamp for the Olympus, leaving the Heisenberg monos in place. The Olympus was more resolving and sounded more organic. It also threw a more 3D soundstage, with notably more height and depth. But perhaps the most striking improvement was the...

Recently swapped in a new amp and preamp from Pilium and can say that in this case mythology > science.

Lampizator Horizon360 - Broadening Our Musical Horizons

I will be curious to learn whether anyone decides that they have new favorite tube combos as the result of upgrading from the H1 to the H360, and for that matter the same question could be asked about going from the Extreme and USB to the Olympus and XDMI.

Introducing Olympus & Olympus I/O - A new perspective on modern music playback

I did not mean to imply that the DAC manufactures would be put out of business over night. Rather, I was only observing that Taiko, which has not heretofore been in the DAC space, was now going to be in it, and with that expansion of their product foot print, be competing with the DAC...

Introducing Olympus & Olympus I/O - A new perspective on modern music playback

At the risk of kicking a hornet's nest here, I will note that it appears that Taiko may be on a competitive collision course with DAC manufacturers, notwithstanding the talk of cooperation between Taiko and the manufacturers of some of the DACs favored by WBF participants. There is already the...

    Harman International buys roon

The answer depends on (1) the structure of the acquisition (if the entire entity was acquired, that would include the liabilities such as ongoing license obligations, but if only assets were acquired, those liabilities might or might not have been included) and (2) assuming Harman did acquire...

    Magico M7 2023

Looks to have more in common with the lines of the M6 than the M9, and perhaps more striking than either of them. Must weigh a LOT as it appears to be a single piece, which is too bad, because my listening room is downstairs from the entry level of my house. Getting the MPros down those stairs...

    RIP Robbie Robertson

Surprised to come here and find no post on the passing of this musical giant and arguably the originator of the Americana genre. Songs penned by Robbie Robertson are woven deeply into the fabric of American culture, although he was born in Canada. Will be listening to the Band and period...
