Yes. I started with the basic FMC and switch in my journey and then added linear power supplied FMCs and switch both with upgraded clocks and noticed quite a difference.
I spent some time this weekend comparing the CommScope and FS Grade B cable. Both are great, at first i preferred the FS cable but then after comparing again a few hours later, I preferred the CommScope cable. My guess is that my amps weren't fully warmed up during the initial comparison. The...
I would replace the Lumin Cable and then shift the existing Analog cable to the pre-amp and go from there. If there is still an itch to replace something, then look at replacing the Analog cable in the pre-amp position.
Congratulations! VAC owner here as well, and I agree with the Pre+Power synergy comment. Out of curiousity, which other setups did you demo before landing on these Floridian jewels?
the FTLX1475D3BTL modules have been delivered, but still waiting on the CommScope cable; there shouldn't be any issue using a Corning Grade B OS2 cable from FS...correct?
alright folks, its happening! ordered the FTLX1475D3BTL to try. Now, my question is: does the length of the fiber optic cable matter? I (more so the Mrs.) would rather not have 6ft of bright yellow cable across the media console. would the 3ft version: FFWLCLC42-JXF003 make any sonic difference?
well, good to know as I was recommended multi mode by sonore a few months ago.
Regardless, I’m not going to make any blanket statements that one type sounds better than the other and will just try each module for what it is regardless of type.
with which components are you referring in terms of compatibility?
there seems to be different recommendations within our industry regarding single mode v multi mode so I just use whichever one sounds best with my equipment.
Good to know! I am not about to go down the power cable merry-go-round as I just finished installing the last one! However, did you decide to use the Commscope cable for the SFP modules or a custom AfterDark fiber patch cable?
so curiosity got the better of me, as usual...
I have spent the last week or so listening to the Finisar FTLX8571D3BCL with an OM4 cable from my FMC to Switch. I am pleased with the sound; initial impression is that it is right in between the Cisco AOC and the Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL modules on...
this is off the spec sheet for the aforementioned modules. my guess is you can use an OM1/OM2/OM3 duplex lc-to-lc multimode cable, but someone please confirm this.
after a few months of going down the networking rabbit hole this these are the cables used for the foreseeable future:
Networking Cutout in Closet:
Modem -> Wireworld Chroma 8 -> Router -> Wireworld Chroma 8 -> Switch -> InWall Contractor Grade Cable (house was pre-wired)
At System
Wall ->...
I am trying to stop myself from going down the tube/tube adapter rolling rabbit hole...I keep telling myself that the best tubes are NOS and they are unavailable so I shouldn't even bother...I don't want to hear anyone say otherwise :p
from what I remember they all were very clear, however the Cisco ones had a relaxed and fuller presentation in the bottom end. The Finisar BTLs sounded pretty even across the spectrum but I did not measure. I tried the BNLs first and then once I got the Cisco's I returned them as didn't see...
I have recently rolled a few SFPs in my setup. I have tried the following:
Finisar FTLF8519P3BNL
Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL
Cisco SFP-10G-AOC1M
In my setup the Cisco SFP AOC sounds the best. The Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL is very detailed but I could only listen for short periods of time before my...
In my experience, each cable at every (ethernet) connection makes a difference. How great of a difference for better or worse depends on your configuration. I don't have an explanation as to why but let your ears be the judge.
agreed, that was my upgrade path as well: whatever was in the router/switch box -> BJC Cat6 -> Supra Cat8.
At this point the weakest link is probably whatever contractor grade cable is in the walls. I don't know how difficult it is to replace that with decent cable or fiber.
For me, the Supra cable has been a solid performer but might switch out the upstream cable from router to switch to the Furutech cable and see how that goes. I want to like it but there has been a clash previously, I will revisit now that the Supras are out.
With the hardware in place, I have decided to try the Finisar FTLF1318P3BTL modules. They are very detailed and sound even throughout the frequency range (have not measured). I have tried mixing and matching ethernet cables pre and post fiber and using two different brands/models never sounded...
I have moved from Supra Cat8 to Sablon 2020 cables. Having mixing cables pre and post fiber did not sound right in my setup. I have just put the second Sablon cable in and have not had time to listen properly but things sound very pleasant and promising.
excellent! I am enjoying my Finisar modules as well; just awaiting one more ethernet cable and then will try different wiring configurations between wall, switch, fmc and server/streamer.
