Thanks, it was an interesting experience trying out RCA vs XLR on the preamp. I also have a Pass Labs Int-60 sitting in the closet and recall hearing a distinction there as well but may test that out in the coming weeks to confirm.
The Zesto Leto II has the following input specs:
3 sets of true transformer Balanced inputs (pin 2 hot) with an impedance of 10K Ohms.
3 sets of Single Ended inputs with an impedance of 100K Ohms.
Really, I didn't find that to be the case. I just spent the entire weekend comparing XLRs and RCAs on my Baltic 4 and they're incredibly different. Granted, I didn't have the same model of each of my cables in both RCA and XLR terminations, but I used 4-5 cables of each type (and similar...
I previously owned a NAD M50.2 so I know exactly what you mean. It was a nice piece of kit, and I had always hoped that NAD would eventually come out with an upgraded version with solid state drives to replace the mechanical ones. I loved the built-in CD player/ripper and was pretty happy with...
Long-time customer here and I just scrolled through Maasif's IG site just to pick a few of the more noteworthy racks and platforms that Trev crafts out of exotic woods.
I have Verity Amadis S speakers and although they're not technically. a biwire design, the speaker's top module (midrange/treble) is connected to the bass unit with jumper cables. The Verity speakers come with terminated jumpers using Cardas wire, but I've had excellent results experimenting...
For the R2R Morpheus DAC, I would go with the more detailed-sounding power cable. With 55N, I'm using the FL46(G) connectors.
Yep, I've done the stiff cables with lightweight components floated on roller-blocks. It was like the Indy 500 in here! And as an aside: any of the off-the-spool raw...
Depending how resolving your DAC is, I'm thinking the S022N might act as something of a brake on your system. It's a much cloudier-sounding cable and you'll lose a lot of detail. The 55N has more transparency, depth and soundstaging. The only real advantage of the 22N is that it is far more...
I found that the 4.1 has a bit of an airy halo effect in the upper midrange and I really didn't like it. The S022N is serviceable enough and I use it on the linear power supplies for my router and switch, though I wouldn't use it higher up in the audio chain. For my server and my DAC, I use...
I want to thank everyone for their very helpful feedback, both in the public responses here and in some PMs and phone calls. I did make a nice upgrade to the B4 with an SR Purple fuse which seemed to stabilize some of the ambience swings between sonic extremes, but the sound is still not as...
I'd prefer a warmish ss amp to having another tube component in my system. I'm sort of valve-crazy at this point swapping everything around. Unfortunately, I sold the GG1 when I first got my Baltic 3, so don't have those stock tubes anymore. As for the B4 rectifier, one of the points that I...
My listening room is 22x14x 9 (in feet).
I listen at low-to-moderate volumes and don't get anywhere near the maximum output of the Pass Amp.
@Golum - Interesting that your best encounter with a Lamp GG was with a custom r2r design. My GG1 was r2r and I thought the Baltic 3 beat it...
@christoph - My Verity speakers are 93db/8ohms. I do realize that the Pass integrated might be the weakest link in my audio chain, Would prefer to stick to an integrated just for housekeeping purposes. Do yo have a suggestion that doesn't bust the budget and that is on the warm-sounding...
Thanks, Golum! I was figuring it might be the GG2/3 as the answer, at least for complex orchestral music. With other genres, the B4 does sound incredibly life-like and was just listening with great pleasure to The Buena Vista Social Club,
With my budget, I'll need to find a second-hand GG2...
I've had the GG1 (R2R), the Baltic 3 and now the Baltic 4, with each one successively better than its predecessor, but still feel that something is missing with the B4. I've had the B4 for a month now and have tried quite a few tube combinations with only a couple of them yielding good results...
There are so many models, plus version upgrades, and then tube rolling factored in, that I'm tempted to start a new thread: "What Lampi is best for me?"
Thank you for the update! I'm somewhat torn between the options of getting a new Lampi and trying a zillion different tube combos to make my Baltic 4 better suited to the playback of classical symphonic music.
Following up to see if the Big 7 Mk3 is working out for you, as I'm trying to decide whether my current Baltic 4 is the best option for me or whether another Lampi might be better.
Thank you, Sablon!
Based on the recommendation you made a few posts back, I did order a Valvo rgn1064 and am awaiting its arrival from overseas. Not sure if it's the exact version you suggested, but it does look rather formidable and my apartment is surely better protected by its presence :)...
As a follow-up,: what I'm finding in all the tube rolling is that the EML 274b is an excellent rectifier but should probably not be paired with 12BH7 tubes--at least in my system. The The EML is a very forward and detailed tube. That, in conjunction with the extra voltage supplied by the...
