    Why the conductor matters

Gotta love a superconductor in front of our orchestra.... :) Cheers, Hans.

    Ethernet tweak

No, this would not be a good solution. You do not want to connect your Teradak straight to the internet like that, with no way to reach it from your internal network because of your router having a separate network. Also, this would make your ISP have to supply 2 IPs which most of them don't do...

    Ethernet tweak

Page one of this topic has already a lot of examples. The Teradak unit basically puts a linear power supply, the optical converter and an upgraded clock module all in one enclosure, but other than that it is very similar to my setup which has these parts in separate enclosures. I simply upgraded...

Interesting approach to use a powerbank! How often do you have to charge it? Hans.

    Ethernet tweak

At first glance, your diagram looks like a good starting point. In my experience equipment at the 'dirty' side is less influential on sound quality so you can generally get away with more ordinary stuff. When choosing the Teradak 212 SFP version your cables need to be chosen along with the SFP...

My Theory of Sonic Cues to Explain Different Sounding Systems

I fully agree with this approach! At Capital Audio Fest 2022 we did a room together with speakers designed by Duke LeJeune and it incorporated a 4 piece asymmetrically placed <80Hz subwoofer array tuned by J.R. Boisclair... the result was a near flat to 20Hz room without any further room...

    My Birthday Cake From Tinka

Happy Birthday Ron! Wow that is an awesome cake! It must be hard to make the first cut on that? Cheers, Hans.

I don't think you'll really need them anymore but as always, let your ears be the final judge... Cheers, Hans.

Infigo Audio debuts the Method 6 Stereo Amplifier!

Thanks @Ron Resnick - I am very honored with this great review indeed! Fun fact: at the very left top of this page you can see that Jason likened the Method 3s musicality to the Octave Jubilee Mono SEs which is underwriting one of our slogans: "I can't believe it's not tubes!" :) Thank you for...

Selection of digital cables BNC 75 Ohm.

I think the correct way to look at this is looking at the wavelength of the signal vs the length of the cable to determine how much the cable acts as a transmission line. Analog sound signals travel at the same speed through cables as their digital versions. Usually one starts looking already at...

    Bower & Wilkins 802 Rebuild - RIP

YES! I have a set of the exact same speakers here too as backup pair, you MUST replace those bipolar crapacitors for actual good ones (polypropylene xover caps or the likes that are usually 4 ~ 10 times the size)! They drove me bipolar lol Cheers, Hans.

Infigo Audio and Stenheim at Pacific Audiofest 2023

This year we are happy to present our electronics driving Stenheim Alumine 3 SE speakers in our suite 1352 at the penthouse floor. It has been a great first day at the show already and I'm looking forward to a couple more musical days here. If you are at the show, feel free to stop by and say...

    Pacific AudioFest 2023

Yes... June this year is a crazy time for audio shows. We were at Dallas Lonestar first week of June, had to skip the SoCal (T.H.E. Show) because it's right after Lonestar and right before Pacific Audio Fest shifted into June... We'll be at PAF in suite 1352, first stop on the right when exiting...

    Ethernet tweak

Looks great, @TRHH , that's exactly the type of setup that gives great results. Now for the brave of hearts, open the FMC at the clean side and inspect what regulator is present at the power barrel connector. If it is like this, then you're good: This one has a 1117-3.3 as you can see, but...

    Lone Star Audio Fest 2023

Writing this from the Lonestar audio fest (last day here, today) It is a cozy small size show but unique in the way you can really take the time and connect with people coming into the room to listen. We've had lots of traffic into our room and many times over people came back for some more...

    Ethernet tweak

Good find! Looking at the pictures of the innards of this thing at their site, this is exactly what you need on the clean side. It has the linear power supply and modified clock built inside one single unit. Great to see someone else was thinking along the same lines and already turned this...

    TINA TURNER DEAD AT 83

Awww that's too bad... R.I.P. Tina.... she was very entertaining... We saw her in the Netherlands and amazingly the sound quality of that concert was very good. I guess the soundguy wasn't stoned that evening :) Pre-program with Gary Moore... great evening - good times... Cheers, Hans.

If you look at this link: https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-fiber-media-converter.html you will see that as good as all of these are clones from a generic design in which many of them have a linear power regulator (a LD1117-3.3 in SOT223 package) but I have also had versions with a small...

    Part 3: Doubling Down

Great story! Thank you for sharing The joy of 3D CAD design - I'm using the same software as above to design the 3D construction of mechanical enclosure, heatsinks and circuitboards for all of our equipment. Couldn't live without it And indeed long live the spouses of the creatives. Couldn't...

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

I'm glad to see you accept that it is the same data for flac and wav. What I've been trying to say before is that the noisy edges you hear are not inherent to the flac format, but are something that happen in your system by the way your player treats these types of files. Others that reacted...
  23. InfigoAudio

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

I meant electrical isolation, not physical from vibrations. If the player is a PC, then the clock is almost never an ultra low jitter precision clock. Those things all matter in this. FLAC playback might have more or different jitter in your case, which sometimes translates as the types of noise...
  24. InfigoAudio

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

There will definitely be something audible that shouldn't be there, but in my experience these things usually disappear when adding isolation and precise reclocking. Cheers, Hans.
  25. InfigoAudio

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

Then I'd say read the FLAC into for instance Adobe Audition and convert it back to WAV... the data is the same, just like unzipping a zipfile. FLAC is lossless so there is no regret needed for that way of ripping, it can still be undone... Cheers, Hans.

SOtM sNH-10G Network Switches x2 : The NEW KING of USB/Network Gadget Setup

Check out this image uploaded to the wiki page about SFPs... These things come in many different build qualities and as we all know at some point in high resolving systems EVERYTHING makes a difference. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3a/SFP_internal.jpg Cheers, Hans.

Why your audio might be bad - and there is nothing you can do

It's a bit of a clickbait title but he certainly got a point there. The source is a big source of trouble for many tracks... It's why I usually like the 'non hits' on popular albums better than the ones destined to be a hit. Cheers, Hans.
  28. InfigoAudio

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

Adding the various OS and kernels / drivers / latencies / jitter etc for playback all into the mix is opening another level of things that make huge difference. That's what makes digital audio playback so interesting, and way more difficult to do it right... I agree with 7ryder that flac isn't...
  29. InfigoAudio

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

What I'm trying to say is that ultimately there should be no difference in sound between a flac and a wav, as after unpacking it is the same data. This unpacking process will create some processing noise in the dirty side of my network, which gets stripped off in the reclocking process in the...
  30. InfigoAudio

    MQA, Worse than FLAC?

On the contrary... I care a lot about anything making a difference... Ultimately there should be no difference between a wav and a flac being played, hence the continuous effort of bringing the possible noise sources in the system down to a point that they make no perceivable difference anymore...
