Sure @Verdier! The S1x an 8 Ohm nominal impedance, and the minimum impedance is 9.7 Ohms. The S1 is 16 Ohms nominal, with a minimum impedance of 15.6 Ohms. The S2 is an 8 Ohm nominal with a minimum 6.7 Ohm impedance. Please feel free to PM if you like, happy to share any data you'd find of...
We are thrilled this morning to announce that the Robb Report has selected the Songer Audio S1 for a 2024 Audio Award, recognizing it as one of this years 40 finest audiophile products in the world.
Best Loudspeakers for Design Obsessives: Songer Audio S1
This is an incredible achievement. We...
Time and cost constraints prevented it. John at Acoustic Elegance and I chatted in email years ago when I was in development of the S2 about jointly developing one, but we were both so busy we just didn't find the time to follow through. There are three projects that I find myself weighing to...
I think you can be hopeful, @morricab
My effort to refine the driver and voice our loudspeakers has spanned years, with exhaustive testing of cone materials, weights, and shapes, driver suspension refinement, cabinet construction, lining, port tuning, novel baffle step compensation... so many...
Absolutely! As Rex knows, the current listening space for the S1 is pleasing, but of a fairly modest size - ideal for an individual client, or taking turns in the listening chair.
Alternately however, I can coordinate with Whammerdyne for the S1x in the larger listening room as well, with a...
Yep! There's a dial on the amp that mediates the sensitivity of the meter. It was turned up to eleven, as they say. Once I'd discovered it and turned it down to something more moderate, the meter behaved as one may expect.
It was our great pleasure, thank you so much for spending time with us. The system was absolutely extraordinary. The S1x and Nova driver exceeded even my own expectations.
We had a great show, and can't wait to come back next year. The venue was excellent, and as usual Lou and Gary did a top...
We are so pleased to share the first full review of the S2, written by the Editor-in-Chief of Part-Time Audiophile Marc Phillips, and published with his Reviewers Choice Award just this morning.
I'm left speechless by what Marc had to say. Having this work acknowledged by industry...
I'd like to take a moment to share a few details with everyone about the extraordinary brands, components and people that will be partnering with Songer Audio at the Southwest Audio Fest next week.
The system that we showed with at the 2023 Capital Audiofest was the finest curation of...
Thank you for this kind reply, Graham. With each development cycle I'm surprised to have not yet reached diminishing return... nothing left around me but very tall trees to climb, and very small fruit to pick from them. In spite of that never having been the case, I feel that way even now...
It's an exciting day for us at Songer Audio. After many months of design, development, and testing, we are pleased to announce our next generation field coil driver this afternoon, and the new S1x. While we have yet to decide on a final name for it, this is the fourth major iteration of the...
Just sharing a little more good news, today - Songer Audio is proud to have been honored for the S1 this month by Materialist, a lifestyle magazine in Germany, as one of the Top 100 Masterpieces of 2024. Of course I couldn't be more grateful to Materialist, for recognizing the passion and...
My initial plan for this post was to continue a more or less chronological account of my long journey to develop the S1 loudspeaker. Upon reconsideration though, it's sufficient to just say that nothing earth-shattering happened there. The cabinet was much more effectively braced. It was better...
I just wanted to take a moment to share, with permission, a picture of our installation in the listening space of our newest S1 client in New York. This pair in Peruvian Walnut was delivered yesterday, and while they look beautiful, they happen to likewise be the finest sounding S1s that have...
I hope so too, Graham - what part of the world are you in? The short answer is that a field coil will be the much better performer, even as a woofer running at 6-7 volts if you're still getting acceptable SPL for your application. I'd especially say so because you're crossing as high as 600Hz...
Thanks so much for the kind words about my work Graham, and for reading my posts - I'm glad you're enjoying both. The AE woofer was simply the best performer within the design guidelines, really. As you may have read further along, the sensitivity of the field coil in its complete form is...
Hi Don,
We will at some point in the future, but I think that's going to be at least a year and likely more away. If you'd like, please feel free to PM me with a good contact email for you, though. I'll add you to the list, and when the time is right we'll email you with the offer to own a...
Well everyone, that's another wonderfully successful show in the books at Songer Audio! Thank you to those who attended the event and made time to listen with us, as well as to the press and our friends in the industry who have enjoyed our work, and been so good to us since our debut in Seattle...
We're delighted to have two wonderful new partners and some of the finest brands in the world with us this week at the 2023 Capital Audiofest.
Courtesy of Hear This and Destination Sound Group, we'll host the US show debut of the LampizatOr Poseidon DAC, a new offering from one of the most...
I agree, what a gorgeous design. It's just the sort of high artistry and engineering that I look to associate with my own work, @gleeds. We've been all-digital at the shows in the past, but as we look to pair with analog sources at future events, it would be a privilege to pair a masterpiece...
I'm pleased to share a simply magnificent write-up of the Songer Audio S1 just a few days ago, courtesy of Robert Ross and the Robb Report:
https://robbreport.com/.../songer-audio-s1-loudspeaker.../
We had the pleasure of Robert's company this past June at T.H.E. Show in Costa Mesa, CA. It...
The primitive S1 from my last effort had achieved something other than just good sound. It had restored faith in those closest to me that I could in fact design and build a complete, intentional loudspeaker.
But it still wasn't without a few problems. The series resistor in the speaker was...
Just sharing some good news with the community - we were thrilled this morning to have been selected by Enjoy the Music for a prestigious Blue Note Award, for the S1, honoring it as one of the 16 best products of 2023.
What an achievement, and what an honor. Our deep gratitude to Steven R...
Thank you, Stephan! Yes, you're absolutely right. The series resistor seemed to work at this stage, but eventually it became clear to me that it wasn't the best way to solve my problem. I didn't want to increase the mass of the cones though, or to alter the motor steel geometry... It turned...
Subjective disappointments aside, it felt good that next morning having managed a public speaking engagement, and successful listening event. Some said that they'd never heard anything better. Others were impressed with the craftsmanship. More than a few had asked the price.
Them: "These...
