PS Now I think I need a disc flattener to complete the LP restoration. Some LP's wave like Baltic sea at a stromy day ;)

Neil thanks! Your methods worked wonders. Honestly I've lost the count but surprisingly less than I thought. Some 400+ perhaps

Absolutely! Plus vacuum will not clean as US cleans, let alone 2x US with different solutions. Adding the 2nd rinse UST was crucial for the speedup, thanks again guys!

Finished recently cleaning all of my vinyls! Fantastic, liberating feeling :) Had no idea that would be doable in any sort of a reasonable time. A BIG BIG THANK YOU Neil, Tima, and the rest of the enthusiasts here for paving the road.

Got it! But since Tergitol is doing most/all of the job I would not loose my sleep about the IPA level. I also think that the vacuum pre-clean although makes the process longer and more elaborate, it nicely spreads the cleaning job over two processes, making the requirements each of them has to...

Got it Neil, thank you! I top up with 3% IPA not just pure DIW so there is some IPA in the cleaner (I can smell it ;) BTW when is the time to change the 0.2um filter? It is getting more and more dirty

    tima's DIY RCM

Neil, I'm sorry if I'm repeating sth that has been answered - how to measure IPA level? Would normal (wine/beer) glass alcoholmeters work? Or a refractometer? Thank you

Got it Neil! I'm not monitoring the IPA level. When I top up the cleaner (about 300ml at a time), I add a mix of DIW and 3% IPA. I could get a simple alcohol meter (one used for beer brewing) but it is supposed to monitor ethanol so not sure if it will work with IPA?

    tima's DIY RCM

Neil, I just take machines from Audiorevita, not their liquids. I use 2.5% IPA + 0.02% Tergitol S7
  11. Stacore

    tima's DIY RCM

Interesting, with 0.02% of S7 I get no foaming at all unless I stir the cleaner energetically.

Hi Neil, thank you! I can actually hear the detunning, I was not precise, it does not get quiet. Probably he was mistaken with 10kHz. But if sweep is getting only a doubtful advantage with moving vinyls I will simply not use it (although Audiorevita guy says when using sweep he is cleaning the...

    tima's DIY RCM

Thanks Neil! Actually it seems that the sweep in my case is more radical: 10kHz to 40kHz. I was told the numbers by the Audiorevita guy from whom I bought. When in the sweep mode, the normal US noise of the operation periodically disappears then reappears so it is more than few kHz modulation...

I just got a bigger tank for rinsing. It is 240W/10L, 40kHz but has a sweep function. No idea what is the sweep bandwidth. Was wondering if it is safe to use it without knowing the bandwidth? Any thoughts? Thanks

Hi Stehno & welcome! At the heart are sensitive roller bearings, isolating in the horizontal plane. Apart from that it employs high mass and slate/steel CLD (constrained layer damping) as additional damping mechanisms. Cheers,

    tima's DIY RCM

I'm past some 80-100 LP's using my new 0.2um filter from Ebay and I'm happy so far - the cleaner is still quite clear (earlier it would go turbid after some 30 LP's) and the filter starts to get the yellowish coloration in the lower 20-25% of its height. Whatever the "0.2um" rating is, it works...

    tima's DIY RCM

Thank you Tima, shipping costs and times are usually prohibitive. Plus I do not really consider the filter as that critical - its sole role is to prolong longevity of the cleaner.

    tima's DIY RCM

Neil, ethanol worked instantly. The paint gave up after a minute or two, thank you for the great advice! I’ve also received the 0,2um filter and assembled the filtration rig around it. Test run ok The pump is a bit noisy but pumps a considerable amount of cleaner through the filter. The filter...

Neil, I have one tough problem, if I may: Paint. Just came across one record that seem to have paint (!) markings. Extensive scrubbing did not help. Is there any safe way to remove it?
  22. Stacore

    tima's DIY RCM

Such experiences, leaving the brilliant exposition of the subject by Neil aside, is exactly why I feel that scrubbing is necessary. Given the softness of wet, micron nylon bristles, if they can damage the grooves then the stylus should simply ruin them.

I have observed one interesting thing: People with a vast experience in LP cleaning seem to be against rubbing and lean more towards soaking. I know at least two - Tima and The Cat. I'm nowhere close to these two gentlemen with the number of cleaned LP's and I still believe in scrubbing. My...

I have both Osage and Keith Monks brushes. Both similarly delicate bristles, but KM has more of them. I do a bi-directional scrub quite aggressively as it was helping me in the past (tested by ear soak vs scrub). IIRC the Keith Monks guy was also pressing the brush quite hard against the record...

    tima's DIY RCM

Got it Neil, thank you for your patience! I had problems with leftover of Ilford solution ('plastiky' sound of vinyls) and had to re-clean several dozens of records. Never again! I start with 0.25% and don't go past 0.5% Liquinox and observe carefully what happens. I should get the bottle mid Oct.

    tima's DIY RCM

Thanks Neil! But in our specific 3-setp process, after the RCM pre-clean the records go to the main US wash (2.5% + 0.02% S7) and then to the rinse US. I guess the vacuum RCM rinsing limitations you are mentioning do not really apply and 1% Liquinox may be used? Cheers,

    tima's DIY RCM

Hey Tim, no worries I have a small collection of brushes now ;) From my experience some time ago - just letting the cleaner soak was not enough, at lest given the vacuum of Okki Nokki. I remember making tests and adding scrubbing after the soak phase removed more of the noises. BTW did a...

    tima's DIY RCM

Great Neil! Then we have a source of Liquinox in EU - the Merck company and their distributors (in Poland it is Alchem, they also have Tergitol S7). I'm a bit confused with the dilution of the Liquinox: here you mention 0.5% while in the book 1%. I'd rather use more aggressive then less for the...

Neil, these are the Alconox products locally available: https://www.sigmaaldrich.com/PL/pl/search/alconox?focus=products&page=1&perPage=30&sort=relevance&term=alconox&type=product Edit I guess the Liquinox is the right stuff although there is no "1232" number that I can see...
