We have installed "Home Automation " in the homes that we build since 1995.
At the infancy it was complex, not very user friendly and too much trouble shooting to keep clients happy when they wanted a parameter changed or wanted a new DVD or VHS player.
Since then we have installed Crestron, Elan, Control4 and Savant.
The Savant has been the most popular as a control system by the end user.
I think my wife selected the Savant for controlling her home theater system. We selected the Elan for remote control of the rest of the house because it seemed to have the most robust video intercom capability, and because the panels can be connected with ethernet cables.
