Taiko Audio Extreme Router

Several reset routines done.
Trials with ipad and Samsung tablet.
Taikoaudio Wlan obviously works again, I am reading and writing here with it as my entrance to the internet.

Service request sent. Sigh. Maybe press the router reset button?

If I connected the dots correctly, this involves XDMS, and Ed has been in contact with you to troubleshoot the issue.

He did!
Did I mention that Ed is my hero?
Give this man a medal!

Thx to all folks at Taiko, for your support, my best wishes for successful troubleshooting and bug crashing with XDMS and have a great time in Munich!
Cheers, Ulrich

For those of us who are content with Roon. Do/should we do the install ALPHA 3.0.11? I don't want to run into a previous problem when I didn't keep up with the upgrades and it became "stuck" in XDMS and wouldn't allow me to get back into ROON...

Alpha 3.0.11 is the new app. It would only install on your mobile device.

Having said that, if you are happy with Roon why would you bother?

no need to install XDMS Alpha Control App 3.0.11 if you are using Roon

XDMS beta will be coming soon, but we will release it slowly, just two or three systems a week

Exactly what I thought would happen did! If XDMS is installed and is configured as your default setting then YES you must keep up with the latest updates! I'll get Edward to either remove XDMS or make Roon my default setting. We attempted this before, obviously unsuccessfully...

Or just have XDMS uninstallled so you don’t have to worry about. You can also disable the startup program which runs XDMS.

I thought I did have it uninstalled. I'm not sure how to properly disable it. I just rewired an isolation transformer without issue and a simple task such as this creates issues for me, go figure...

Ask Ed to do it.

The prior version before alpha, wouldn't for some reason stay in Roon as my DEFAULT. Maybe this version will stay in Roon and not always go to XDMS as my DEFAULT

This is how I have always had it toggled and it always resorted back to XDMS, with soft reboots. I don't know if it was in how mine was originally configured. I never use it. As mentioned maybe this alpha version will properly function. This was why I originally asked the question...

Hi John, there is a range of startup/config files that can alter this behavior under the hood. If you haven't sent in a ticket yet, please do so, and I will ask Ed to help you out.

My streaming setup is:

- Fiber to the home into
- Fritzbox 5590 fiber ips router
- Sablon ethernet cable
- Taiko router
- DAC cable
- Taiko switch
- DAC cable
- Taiko Extreme
- Sablon usb cable
- T+A SD 3100 hv DAC

I consider an additional LAN cable from Taiko router to my T+A DAC for internet radio (hopefully sounding better than ROON radio stations).
Could this additional cable compromise streaming sound?

This is certainly possible, and the T+A would benefit from a cleaner network. However, generally speaking, the more devices you connect to the Extreme Router, the higher the chance of polluting the audio-only network. The Router's power consumption will increase by 10%, as RJ45 is relatively power-hungry, and higher power consumption has the potential to incur more disturbances. That said, given the restricted traffic, the difference may not be huge, and it is worth trying. You could always temporarily disconnect the cable on either end for critical listening if you find the adverse effect too large. An alternative would be to connect the additional LAN cable to the Fritzbox, so you keep the Taiko network dedicated to the server.

@engadin
I also own the SD 3100 HV in 2 separate systems and am curious if you’ve compared the T+A streaming client in your unit to the output of the extreme server - particularly when sourced through the Taiko router and switch. While the T+A G2 software leave a LOT to be desired from a metadata standpoint, can you comment on how the hardware sounds relative to a top quality server?

Best,

Hi Mgrif104,

I lived in a beautiful Engadin house (built 1860) in beautiful Suisse with a room for music but definitely no place for my turntable, separate compressor for air bearing arm in another room, 4000 plus x records. All boxed and stored.
I considered myself an analog taliban. CD? Good enough for use in car. Streaming? Even worse.
I did miss music a lot. I had hoped for a simple and single box solution with headphones, a streamer/dac/headphone amp.
I bought a SD 3100 hv and a Meze Elite.
Streaming with LAN cable directly into SD 3100 hv was an utter disappointment, all grey and boring.
Swapping headphone cables to a decent balanced Forza Noir … better, still not satisfied at all.
Adding a decent switch (Ediscreation extreme) and decent LAN cables helped a lot.
Adding the Taiko Extreme, it‘s ongoing XDMS software improvements (some of them astonishingly improving sound), adding T switch and router, adding a mighty fine lps (Sean Jacobs mini arc6 dc4, highly recommended in these pages and by me ) is a completely different experience, a different world.
Music had become a joy again to a degree that I didn’t miss my turntable.
I wouldn’t have thought that possible before.
Music was fun again, emotionally satisfying, offering drama when the music had it, tonal colours and fine dynamic shadings, all the things which make the difference between a boring and a truly great interpretation , performance of a musician. Big time.
I bought small TAD speakers and a subwoofer.

I have relocated,
new rooms, reassembled turntable again.
There are recordings with tt still superior.
Blood, Sweat and Tears: the boutique ORG mastering & pressing is a delight, the Qobuz remastering … a disgrace.
Otoh, play recent classical or jazz recordings from say ECM, ACT and streaming with all things Taiko plus t+a DAC is close to perfection, overwhelmingly so.

Cheers, Ulrich

PS: I had not mentioned vast improvements in deep bass extension, recreation of recording space, macrodynamics, texture, whatever.
They did happen with adding all things Taiko.
As for me, most important are the things like musical expression, drama, excitement, when music and interpretation have it.

Thank you Ulrich.
Like you, I noticed a huge improvement with the addition of a high quality switch - in my case the Reiki superswitch and LPS. I had an Auralic G2 streaming transport from my previous system but it was clearly inferior to the built in streaming client in the T+A unit. I will note that it took 100 hours or so for the DAC to come to life. Indeed, at first, I thought i made a mistake in purchasing it. It just needed some time as it is now very, very good. And yes - ECM is a go to label for me.
In any case, sounds like I’ll need to figure out a way to audition a Taiko extreme in one of my systems. Sigh. I’d like to find the end of this road. Some day.
Thanks again for the feedback.
Kind regards,
Mark

Our dearest friends are living in Zurich for 2 years and have become quite enchanted with most everything Suisse - particularly the lovely people there.
