Come on...you mean there isn't a little part of you pulling for Marchand to win a 2nd cup?

Canada hasn’t won since 1993.

And they never will since there isn't a "Canada" NHL team, just like there isn't a USA NHL team, or Sweden NHL team ,etc. :) That said, if a Canadian based team has a chance it's the Oilers if they can keep playing defense they way they did vs the Stars and Skinner holds up in net. Panthers take penalties and McDavid and Leon D will light them up

You know what I meant.

…And USA just won the Worlds and Canada didn’t even medal.

Yes I did which is why I put a smiley face. The World Championship is a crapshoot and this was the first time in a long time that USA had a much more competitive team at that. USA shows much better at the World Junior Championship and U. 18s. Canada normally shines at the Worlds it was shocking that they lost to Denmark with 2 minutes left, but it's a 60 minute game. They did win the NHL 4 Nations tournament a couple of months back, and you can't downplay how they traditionally fair in all hockey tournaments.

I grew up in Toronto and was a fan when there was only 6 teams in the NHL. Foster Hewitt and then his son. Bill Hewitt on CKFH radio was the voice of the Maple Leafs. I was an ardent fan. NHL Hockey became a huge sport in the USA when Gretzky was traded from Edmonton to the LA Kings. He put hockey on the map

Leafs haven’t won the cup since 1967.

Canada is losing their dominance in hockey. Other countries are producing highly skilled players at an equal rate now. The best goal scorer in history is a Russian and it’s feasible he could be passed by a current USA player.

Maybe Oilers will win this year and break the looooooong drought for poor Canada.

Other countries are producing highly skilled players today so Canada is losing its dominance in hockey!
As a Canadian who has played hockey most of his life I find no particular shame in that. I have watched NHL hockey since the Original Six era and it has been nice to see the growth in the game.

Back in the 60's only Montreal and Toronto had team in the NHL the others were US based. Most of the players were Canadian though, with a few Americans. Times change though and with expansion there are now many great players from all of the world. As hockey has been a huge part of my life and perhaps because I am a Canadian I appreciate how far the game has come!

The two best teams have made their way through the arduous Stanley Cup playoff format and it looks like it should be an entertaining and hard fought series. One happens to be based in Florida the other in Edmonton, Alberta. There are lots of star hockey players from Canada, the US, Finland, Germany, Sweden, Czechoslovakia and even Russia. If you look at the rosters Florida has as many Finns as Americans born players (5). Edmonton has quite a few more Canadian players than Florida. Once the puck drops though it doesn't matter where you are from, it's game on and it will be hard, fast and skilled!

So yeah I will be cheering for the team from Edmonton. I am only loaning them my support for the final though, Go Flames Go! lol!

Bobby Orr and Bobby Hull brought hockey to the USA but it was Gretsky going from Edmonton to the LA Kings that hockey became a true sport in the USA.

Hockey players work much harder for their dollar than NBA player.. and that’s not meant to be a disrespect to the NBA players. game is player for 60 minutes with much more physical contact.

I arrived in Edmonton right after Gretzky was traded to the Kings, so I missed the glory days of Edmonton Oilers (they won 5). The Oilers sucked for a while, there was a time we were watching more games because suppliers/vendors always have spare ticket because nobody was interested. Things changed since #97 came to town. Edmonton is not a very big city, only just over 1m people, but the Oilers games are mostly sold out. I was told cheapest ticket for the Stanley Cup home games are over $900..

Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup in 1965 but it matters not because......Maple Leaf Gardens sold out every game from 1946 until the building closed in 1999. The ACC had a 15 year sell out streak until the abysmal 2015 .....and finally this stat.........The waiting period for Leaf Season Tickets is approximately 20 years and has over 4,000 names on the list.

They have a losing record in the playoffs over the past 57 years. They haven’t even made it to the conference finals for 23 years! I guess it’s like a car crash, the Canadian fans just can’t look away.

You don't get it....it doesnt matter. The fans are die hard and the place is always sold out

Last time I could say I was a fan, Punch Imlach was the coach and Mahovlich was their star

I've been a NY Rangers fan since I was 7 so 65 years now . 94 seems like it may well be the only Cup that they will win before I'm gone but I will keep being a diehard Rangers fan till my end regardless.

when NHL hockey came to the USA it changed from a sporting event to an entertainment event. When we moved from Canada to SoCal watching the Ducks and the San Jose team the hype on the ice leading up to the start of a game was "showtime
My era was before goalies wore face masks until Jacques Plante played for Montreal and changed the game forever. Previously I would watch Ed Chadwick, Johnny Bowers, and Gump Worsely take a slap shot to the face and watched them skate off in a pool of blood on the ice. The game would be on standstill fro 20 minutes when the goalie reemerged from the tunnel with 20-30 stitches and the game went on.
