Why, oh why, does vinyl continue to blow away digital?

Do you think that tape is as predictable as digital? ;)

IMO nothing is predictable at a show, unless the demonstrator knows how to select recordings. In some sense stereo is not predictable - the well know Circle of Confusion.

Absolutely my M15 A is as reliable as digital , good sound over and over again no maintenance required .

(Ok i should dust it of more often looking at the picture )

IDK, half of them I like the music on, but the other half I view as "sound effects" albums that I have no time for. Those are revealing of audiophiles' sound worship, and are embarrassing, IMO.

Embarrassing!
Why? Most of those are pretty good to great pop/rock albums of at least good sound quality. If your diet in music is mostly pop/rock then these are good examples to use. The jazz picks aren’t bad either.

I wonder if the issue is the music itself or the fact that these albums are played over and over and over again at shows.

I agree with you some of the music is great.

Vinyl vs Digital to me has mostly been about one's preference toward either errors of omission vs errors of commission, respectively. It's my opinion that most people are more forgiving of errors of omission, and thus vinyl is less offensive. Clearly this is a broad generalization that fails to meet all examples, but it's just my opinion

It’s just such a tiny slice of the music world. The same over and over. Pink Floyd, Dire Straits…

Can't stand Brothers In Arms. I had an intense dislike for the album predating my audiophile days. Now, if you give me the first album of Dire Straits instead...

Go to a Manuel Huber Demo .

No audiophile recording demo crap there . ;)
Many years ago, I had "demo'd" the first level preamp & the (then) new small mono amps. The actual demo lasted 2-3min (listening to S-R-V), then we switched to various iterations of Symphonie Fantastique and then B-minor Mass (Richter was best) -- regardless of the recording quality of course.
The idea was, the better system will extract more of your favourite performance...

"Kind of Blue" and "Time Out" are iconic. "Jazz at the Pawnshop" is not a "landmark" recording as the other two, though it is certainly enjoyable and has sold many copies (not only to audiophiles!).

Of course, kind of blue is a blissful and iconic album. That’s not the point.
