New Album & The Beginning of Basketball Season

Game over

Guess who is now tied for best record in the East

That's the Lakers of last season's playoff. They usually rise to the occasion. So their motivation is an 'occasion' like this, a Boston game at the Garden. Bynum showed up to tell Melo he ain't goin' nowhere. LOL Yeah, Miami is tied for the best record. The injuries to the reserves are hurting the C's, at least it's not on the starters. But both bench and starters ARE needed to win in June.

Heat/Celtics game shows how 'heated' this match up is going to be come playoff time if they meet. Was that an NFL type shove by Wade on Garnett or what? Flagrant 1. It's gonna be real exciting this May.

IF they meet?:) Only injuries will stop this from happening.

What I find interesting, which was in full demonstration today as well as the previous 2 games they played this season, and really going back to LBJ's days in Cleveland, is how poor Paul Pierce plays against LBJ. If the C's figure out how to get PP going, the C's take the series.

Agreed, Ron. Health is now the biggest concern of the C's, which shows up even now. Jermaine has been a waste of money. Shaq is down most of the time. Delonte still out. Daniels out. All injured. The age factor affects Paul now that 2 more years had passed since he boldly told Doc he wanted to guard Kobe in that incredible comeback in LA on Game 4. I don't see him getting any tougher defensively against James in any match-up. No one can stop him on the C's side. It only takes a switching help defensive effort to stop James, imo. And true, Pierce needs to score 15 to 20 each game for them to have a chance.

Ron I truly cannot believe that game.

They need a trade but they aren't giving up their big 3 up front and no one wants Artest

With about a week to go till the trade deadline, cramming for a trade may not be a good idea as the word 'desperation' comes to mind, specially for a Laker team that has been built on 'chemistry for the past few years. But I am as shocked as anyone on tonight's Lakers' loss to Cleveland, whom they beat by 55 points last meeting around. Maybe they were surprised by a guy named Sessions. Me too. I had to google up the guy. :) As for Denver, still talking a lot of steam, the management. By next week, the scenario may be them losing Melo for nothing. Hard to imagine Melo signing an extension with them after the trade deadline when he could have done so the past so many months before. I read somewhere the C's may want to pick up Rip Hamilton who suddenly does not fit the play of the Pistons, acc to their coach. I believe Rip still has a lot of basketball in him.

Derrick Rose burns the league leading Spurs for 42 points tonight. The guy is blooming. (no pun intended) The Eastern powers wouldn't want to face the Bulls when Noah even returns come playoff time. No frills, no hype, no extra emotions, just plain basketball, AND very effective. That's one guy your build a team on.

wow, madison square garden is rocking tonight! knicks fans have reasons to be so upbeat!

yeah, the trading deadline causes some last minute player juggling. but i hope deron, harris, melo, billups, et al will do well in their new teams. the east gets another strong contender in the knicks but the surprise of it all to me was how isaiah thomas' name keeps cropping up in the news and even on the press conference of melo and billups rights before the game tonight. a new category now called 'shadow GM'?

Boston traded away their starting center Kendrik Perkins to OKL. Oh my!!! And I thought it was the Lakers looking for trades a week ago. I hope Kristic and Jeff Green fit in the C's play.

Yeah, I am stunned by the Perkins trade. I guess they feel comfortable going w/ Shaq in the playoffs, particularly since Howard is the only back to the basket center in the East that the Celtics might play. Miami has no center and Noah is not a back to the basket threat. If Shaq goes down, though, Boston is in trouble.

Agreed. I think they're resting Shaq for him to be really healthy to play in May. Sometimes it's hard to read a GM's mind, but I think Ainge must have some guy he's planning to sign after a buy-out. If not, they have to bank on Shaq. In the meantime, in tonight's game with Denver, the C's have no real center in the roster.

IIRC, Perkins is a free agent at season's end.

Ah..That explains it. And he just suffered another MCL on his other knee in their last game against the Warriors. And now, I just read some reports saying Ainge is really clearing way for a possible bid on Dwight Howard who will be a free agent next year.

And btw, the Lakers are playing solid in yesterday's win over Portland. As Coach Popovich said, to him, 'the Lakers are still the best team'. They are dangerous when the going gets tough. They seem to thrive on that.

I don't like the Perkins trade from Boston's pov -- last thing you want to do is get smaller right now, and he's a beast inside. Wouldn't want to rely on Shaq and his health and conditioning. IIRC, Jeff Green becomes an FA too, if not this year then next.

Meantime, as anybody seen Derrick Rose play regularly? I think he does at least two things a night I've never seen before.

Well, lots of Boston fans do not like the Perkins trade and seek reasons for that kind of trade but I guess Ainge now believes they can go on without a dominant center (assuming Shaq does not come back) like the Heat and the Knicks. I saw parts of the game the C's had with the Nuggets and the C's were close and sometimes leading towards 3 and a half quarters. They just ran out of gas in the end. Pro sports can be cold with these flagrant trades. People talk of team chemistry and one of the most bonded were these first 5 of the C's that included Perkins. Tough job for a GM to break such chemistry as collateral damage to buliding the team's future. Sometimes the fans just do not see the points in the deals.

As for Rose, he has been impressive of late, and yesterday's performance against Wade and company showed so much confidence in his play. What a guy.
