Ok guys Hervé replied to me and confirmed that the new NHB-108 model 2 is a smaller version of the NHB-458 with better bass control:)
So when you know the price of the NHB-458, the 108 model 2 is almost a bargain.
He also told me that the new 108 will have no problem driving speakers dipping down under 3 ohms.
I guess the new 108 is a must audition!

Yes, was there Sunday and he told me similar. I forgot to post it.

The demo unit I took a picture of is identical to the final version, except for engraving. It is indeed a model 2 and I saw a model 2 at the factory packed and ready to ship to Italy as well as a 468 for Singap.

The 108 is fantastic. I've driven tough loads (Dynaudio) with it, and it was fabulous. Still my #1 stereo amp, after all these years. Ayre? Not even a good example for an amp with good bass control, tons of others do much better in that particular aspect.

Alex which Dynaudio model have to tried with the 108 ? just to have an idea of what kind of load your are referring to.

C4 and Temptation. C4 had bass issues with the darTZeel, but the Temptation was much better behaved.

U.K.
I did see that Winson, you did hear it but said nothing really about the sound or how it compared to a standard 108 which is what I am hoping to find out. So rather than ask how if anyone has heard it I’ll ask now if anyone has heard it and care to describe how the new amp sounds?

I actually dont know the model 1 at all. I did hear the NHB458 monos a couple years back and the Integrated and the Danalog. The model 2 was reminiscent of the 458 with obviously less power. Makes sense too as they are similar circuits.

From what Herve tells me, I can see how its a significant improvement.

As far as I know the circuit of the 458 is different from the 108 - and looking at the measurements published by Stereophile of the two amplifiers we can see that there must must be considerable differences in the circuits and in the subjective sound other than power.

Can we know what Herve told you concerning the differences between the two versions of the 108?

Winson, I have a 108 with a pair of loudspeakers that would benefit from a bit more power and control. Hervé I’m sure was just being modest when he said that I would ‘enjoy the lift in performence’ last time I was in touch with him which was about a year ago. Am definitely looking forward to hearing what the new 108 delivers as I probably won’t be able to hear it before the upgrades are available. Any news would be much appreciated.

I already told you all I know in this thread. He said the model 2 is based on the 458 circuit.

He feels the model 2 is better. His stuf is meant to last for ages, so each update is NOT trivial...always a significant uplift.

I would hope that the 108 model 2 is based on the 468 circuit ... :)

No...the 468 is a hybrid of the 458 and the old 108 model 1. A dual evolution.
