So...

It looks like, after last years debacle of the LA Audio Show and the very disappointing T.H.E. Show (less than 30 rooms, only a couple of LP/CD vendors), there will be another attempt at T.H.E. Show this year.

T.H.E. Show 2019

I wish the people organizing T.H.E. Show this year, all the best, for selfish reasons (my own enjoyment), and for their own success!

See you in June!

Long Beach - that was my exact recommendation last year haha.

Hope they can make it a real show this year!

Yep!

It seems like a good choice. I was there once several years ago.

Great thing about that location, I'll be able to take the Metro! Won't have to deal with traffic or parking.

I thought Hotel Irvine was the best venue of any of the Los Angeles or Irvine venue options.

Unfortunately it would appear that we are headed for yet another battle and the self destruction of a high end audio show in Southern California. These people need to come back together and unite or its over. Perceived power in such a small industry is not going to have a positive outcome.

This from the LAOCAS site;

June: We are actively pursuing a major audio show in the LA area, but nothing firm is scheduled right now. As soon as one is finalized, you will be alerted immediately. As you read this, there is no 2019 show to announce in which the Society has an active participation. We heartily recommend CanJam coming thIs June as a “personal listening” favorite! Please check their website for details.

I think a lot of us make the mistake of thinking that the folks who put on these shows do it because they love music and are a'philes. I suspect ( strongly) that this is far from the case. Instead, these folks are interested in the business of 'consumer shows' and are in it strictly for the max profit.
I believe they look at the show goers and the exhibitors simply as just numbers to attain their goal. Whether the show was a cooking show, or a boat show or a car show or whatever, they couldn't give a hoot, just so long as it lines their pockets. IMHO. If these same folk get wind of the possibility that the show wouldn't give them the high returns they expect, they have no compunction to pull the plug at anytime.
Certainly the recent behavior by the various LA show organizers would seem to bolster my point!

I suppose I'll wait and assess industry participation prior to committing to attending this year as was my process last year.

Bloody hell!

This is pretty idiotic.

LA, despite being such a large metropolitan area, cannot support 2 shows. Especially both in the same month.

Vendors are going to lose confidence in showing here, and attendees will be the real losers.

With AXPONA and RMAF a third is questionable, let alone a fourth.
AXPONA and RMAF are solid every year.

This $hit show in California has got to be pissing the vendors off to the point of bailing on the whole program regardless of who "wins" the contest.

What a complete joke - Bob Levi sucks. Politics ruined the 2nd largest audiophile show market in the US and it only hurts consumers and manufacturers.

I'm going to hit RMAF instead.

Many people are unable or unwilling to get away for a long weekend, to travel to another state,

In all fairness, after the death of Richard Beers, Bob Levi tried to contact and organize another T.H.E. Show with the remainder of the crew, and they did not get any sort of commitment. So, that's when they did the LAOC Show. He and Marine Presson stepped up in 2017 and filled the hole left by no T.H.E. Show. At least that's the very abridged version of the story as I heard it from a pretty reliable source.

It was 2018 when the sh!t hit the fan.

But yeah, it's time for both parties, to come to some sort of agreement, for the sake of the LA.OC audiophile market, and do one big show. Or at least do their separate shows at different times of year.

I disagree.

The previous years of T.H.E. Show in Newport/Irvine were all highly attended. And the LAOC Audio show near LAX was also quite crowded. Many packed rooms, busy halls, crowded record and headphone vendors. And I believe, all these shows had around 100 rooms, if not more.

So, despite AXPONA and RMAF existing during the time of the previous shows in LA/OC, the LA/OC shows had no problem attracting large crowds, and world class vendors. Remember, the second year of T.H.E. Show, they had so many vendors who wanted to exhibit, they took over the hotel next door, and almost filled it up.

This $hit show in California has got to be pissing the vendors off to the point of bailing on the whole program regardless of who "wins" the contest.

Completely agree here!

Short memory- Newport was second only to RMAF a few years ago and RMAF has had fading census for a long time and is running on reputation. Axpona is the new kid on the block.
