Audioquattr gave me a head up on issue of Epoch mounting on SME headshell. Here Grado special made Epoch to fit SME properly.

audioquattr, Tang,

What is the issue?

Why does a standard Grado Epoch not mount properly on a SME 3012R?

audioquattr, Tang,

What is the issue?

Why does a standard Grado Epoch not mount properly on a SME 3012R?

The wooden body of Epoch is big and its mounting holes don't align well with the mounting holes of the sme headshell. So the cartridge can not be placed inside the headshell frame.

Oh no! That sounds highly problematic!

Did Grado come up with a custom solution to solve this problem? Are they making a smaller-bodied Epoch for the 3012R?

What is the solution to this problem?

I am very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very curious to read your report comparing the ZYX on a 3012R to the Epoch on a 3012R!

Grado made me some adaptors that solve the problem, I’ll apply them to the cartridges this week and we’ll see how they sound.

Well, I ditched those Mooks. You know the ones.

And one or two tweaks I've tried recently sounded v nice initially but became apparent they were euphonically coloured, e.g. IsoAcoustics Gaias.

Some were really useful in my old room but only marginal here, and JUST deserve to stay in ie Entreq grounding.

Some are great on some gear and marginal on others ie SR Black fuses.

Others are just slam dunk crazy good and my system just loses magic without them ie Stacore, Sablon cables, Westwick balanced power w Oyaides dedicated lines/Furutech sockets, RevOPods under my Zus.

And my newest discovery, a "simple" Tubulus Argentus DB-25 cable that connects my pre to its psu, just strips out so much noise that microdynsmics and ambient detail brought to the fore.

Every so often I progressively strip these out (only my Stacore stays put 100%, it's part of my tt now), and the result is a shrunken, harder, hazier, greyer sound.

I’ve just received my tubulus umbilical chord for my avid phono stage to power supply connector and wish to compliment Aldwin on his excellent service, support and communIcations during my purchase. He not only offered a discount for being exemp from the taxes outside Europe, I wasn’t charged until the cable was made. It arrived 3 days after sending the money from Holland to the UK. Initial impressions are of an immediate noise reduction, and the cable is of far better quality than the standard bulking provided.
Highly recommended

Nemal, fantastic.
One, I'm glad this wasn't a system specific impvt in my rig that wouldn't be replicated elsewhere.
Two, I'm glad you're hearing what I'm hearing.
It wasn't so much I was sceptical as just of low expectations upon ordering the Tubulus. It immediately made me sit up and take notice.
Another small (but vital) step to Heaven.

I am sure Mike's ML3s are the at the place of someone who will try and let them go soon given he does not have the appropriate speakers for these amps :)

Ked,

The MI5 is giving you false information - you should try the CIA!

Guess the MI5 won this one in under 4 months

What surprises me most is that the platforms did not increase the current and the power, thought it would fix the issue.

Nick Doshi is here with me now upgrading his tape pre and work on my Studer to make sure they sound better than my vinyls. ;) I think I have audio guys coming to my office more frequent than business partners. He just installed 5 tape pre's to 5 Studer's at Mr.T's. Obviously a very happy customer.

@Ron Resnick . How could you not expand your musical horizon when there are so many great preformances like this around.

Thank you, Tang. I listened to the whole piece. As solo violin goes it is pretty involving and exciting. I almost liked it!

I listened to the last movement of Mozart Symphony 41 at least six times this week. I definitely like that.

Please say “hi” to Nick for me!

The cadenza is without peer and Reiner is masterful without bravado.

Tang has pulled a belter here.

I have this with Henryk Szeryng and the CSO on RCA, original. Liked this the best, when the G played it I felt it intense throughout the first movement. The Campoli for this is quite expensive, but not my preference unlike his Mendelssohn, but is considered the standard. Also heard the Milstein. All at the general. He will have a few more performances. Also heard the Campoli at Bill's. The heifetz is very good. The best looking violinist to play this will be Nicola Benedetti this November at barbican.
