No jack, no sweetness or heart tugs, for that thorens reference is great as well as some phonos. That is not what I mean by nuance at all

Easy thing is to compare the AS to AF1p at Tang's, he has some of the music I like and the difference you will hear is what I mean. I would want techdas to have its own plus the AS characteristics

Jack do you know why the AF Zero did not have a SAT tonearm on it?
Tech das have often used them before.
Personally I think the Zero looks stunning

Yes, let us talk about technology and what is possible realizing today.
The shown Caeles system, including air bearing and air based dampers and a very sophisticated compressor was not over 30.000 bucks. You may pay 400 T or 260 T bucks if you like. I guess the producers will enjoy it. When you go to Munich High End and you see the prices of High End gear you need to understand how many people in the chain make their life from you...

The tape belt design of the Apolyt. Two motors on each side do not put a significant pull to one direction.

The same happens at my Caeles installation, with two Sperling Motors dragging the tape. Both tables use a real airbearing!
And air based columns!

May I know whether the Apolyt is still a concept product or is it ready for sale?
How many have been sold and who/where are the owners?

I have met Dietrich in Munchen and saw his Monster size Apolyt it seems he is carrying this "Bigy" every year to Munchen but never ever installed and played one single piece of music....? If he believes its that good he must let us or anyway some of us hear it playing!

Hopefully we paid for that happily because they provided what we needed instead of being suckered repeatedly.

Has anyone noticed the Wilsons are sited straight on, no toe in.

Isn't this Christian's favoured set up, but was criticised widely by the other Wilson afficionados like Steve W?

It actually looks like there is a slight toe........Out........

You'll have top forgive me if I don't get what you mean Ked. You've said very little. You've said can't do nuances of classical music, then said "additional nuance" so I guess that means it does but over does it or "calls attention to itself". So I really don't know. I've also never heard an AS.

In any case, all I'm saying is that context is important. Analog has many variables and that is why I do not comment negatively or make blanket assumptions much less recommendations. Certainly not condemnations. I've seen too many set ups that run counter to the generally believed "house sounds", to get surprised anymore. This is especially so with analog.

The Apolyt was playing at Munchen 2018 with a pair of German speakers, Vitus amps and Acoustical Systems phono. Maybe you missed that.

Problem with sophisicated system is ... well it is so damn sophisicated and therefore carry more risk of meeting Murphy. This goes to all sophisicated tts. Most people do not realize with this kind of huge complicated tt, you need to have the designer on your side conveniently. It will break down sometime. The apolyt you need to have D install, fix, assemble, disassemble himself if you ever want move it or something is wrong with it. Just pain in the bud. But people who buy this kind of tt normally has a few more tts sitting around. So might be ok. The Caeles that Airbearing owns also difficult to get it right. When it went to Audio Exotics long time ago it didnt work properly. Between now and then, Airbearing managed to work with the designers on that same unit and got it to work wonderfully now. Airbearing even modified his own too. He could do this because he has designers on his side at convenient. He is friend with both Detrich and the original designer of Caeles. Point is if you want plug and play dont do very sophisicated tt. Even what seems to be a plug and play like Af1P, it still went wacko. If ddk didnt help me talk to Nishigawa san, I probably did not get a replacement of a controller box and my speed would still keep going up and down. So the more simple the better in my book. This is why I keep my tt as less complicated as possible. And at this level you must have the designer on your side.

Kind regards,
Tang

Hi G

I have no idea. I wanted to go to Tokyo to see it but had commitments here in Manila.

Personally, I do think it is stunning as in I was literally stunned. I wish it was all in a good way. I am not fond of brutalist design to be honest but I can also understand why so many parts like the control knobs and the housings and level adjusters are oversized. They would disappear in all that mass otherwise.

I also asked this question in the event. Apparently, Nishikawa san has a broken relationship with Marc Gomez of SAT. I should not quote his personal comment on Marc but it was quite negative.

TechDAS will develop its own tonearm to match with its turntable.
