Just to extend the knowledge on the tubes which go well with TRP and this time they are not NOS and thus are not making a deep hole in the pocket.. 00D45602-6928-49B1-BB91-B02AD52E21BB.jpeg
I hope my friend who is the proud owner of the TRP will chime in with his comment but this is what i got from him: “I‘ll let them warm up a bit more but currently they knock my socks off. I found the el34 a bit forced. Too much attack. The Brimar 6L6G was more musical. This here seems to combine the best of the two worlds. It‘s not just the bass. The midrange has more body. The sound is more palpable, more 3D. High Frequency I‘m not missing anything so far. Also the timbre is better. Everything sounds more real. I‘ll keep it in a few days and will them switch back to the Brimar 6L6G and report back. But I‘m 99% sure that this is a winner. At least in my system.”
Other friend with TRP who gave it a spin with GEC KT66 ordered new production KT66 so soon we’ll have some update also on this combo...fun times ahead..

Haha. That’s precious, Golum :):):) You have way with words. I like it!
I’ve experienced the ‘lit from within’ tube sound before that practically made me see more light in the room. My minds eye was totally seeing bright sunny light within the imaging. It was palpable... So I’ve been there. I know what you mean.
And you’re and great salesman ;)
JRiggy, I know you for a long time now. My advice: Run, don't walk, RUN and go have Fred send you a demo...and prepare your checkbook at the same time. I was with Goran for 4 TRP demos so far and each time we just look at each other and nod. A Pal in Fla, analog head had one on demo (WITH Vol Control) and it was his first experience with digital that could fool him for analog. He ONLY used the stock tubes and a cheap vintage SS amp, but it was a decent server and he did the requisite volume adjustments in JRiver, in the TRP and on his active Preamp. With the VC, he could make the Dac sound totally tubey, totally SS or Balanced (-18db on the TRP vol control). Key was not to overdrive the Dac and to get his Pre in the sweetspot (above unity gain, circa 1pm on the volume knob). He now has to go back to set up his big vinyl rig to try to defeat this little terror of a Dac. He was truly stoked!

Hi Norman!
Yes, you helped me way back with my first and/or second Lampizator DACs; helped communicating with Lukasz and whatnot when I has an issue.
Rob was an audio buddy of mine before him and Fred formed LampizatorNA, so he’s my dude—we are working on figuring something out now :)
So I have a new DHT preamp here and my Atlantic Plus...and you just gave me the idea to back off the DAC volume to get farther up the preamp volume. Thanks! Better frequency balance already! I had done it two or three clicks in the past with other gear but had not experimented farther.. And for the record, I still very much also like the DAC straight to amp approach.

I've been having a lot of fun playing with the Golden Atlantic 2: TRP in my living room, where my Pacific normally acts as DAC. This DAC is like the little engine that could. No, it's not a Pac but it does sooo much right.

Further details regarding tube rolling:
“Update from the TRP world. Compared the EH 6CA7 vs the Brimar 6L6G in more detail today. Both with the KR Ann Rectifier. The EH has more drive, more bass and a fuller, lusher mid-range. The stage moves closer to the listener and is more 3D. The Brimar has better High-Frequency energy. It is airier. The stage moves further back to the rear wall. The soundstage in some tracks appears slightly higher because of the more pronounced treble. The soundstage is less 3D than with the EH. Overall these tubes are the best I have tested so far. In my system I prefer the EH. I was looking for a bit more meat on the bone and this is exactly what I get. But there‘s no clear winner here. If your system has plenty of low frequency energy and already this lush, tuby mid-range but lacks sparkle in the treble, the Brimar is the better choice.”

It seems like a lot is changing with Lampi. It used to be the big 7/GG "chipless" from a few years ago was "it"? Then the r2r with the auto/included DSD function came and by all accounts was great but still had mixed reaction - many still preferred the separate 512 DSD engine?

Can anyone speak to the most recent changes with the TRP? Is this a new generation all together that has not been done before with Lampi? If so what is the new "engine"?

Swiss,

The TRP now shares a derivative of the engine in the Pacific which handles PCM and DSD up to 512. All prior engines have pretty much been made moot by this and it allows us to clear up confusion and consolidate while massively upgrading the products.

While DSD512 only will probably remain an option for those who insist upon it, from my own experience I do not believe there to be a sonic advantage. Moreover it would be a shame to miss out on the massive advancements in PCM handling.

I believe with our generation 6 dacs a lot of people will move away from upsampling towards native resolution playback.

Silly question...but I assume this unit is still R2R?
Let @Gopher correct me if I'm wrong, but it is not by default r2r.
We had on hand two TRPs, one was with this derivative engine Gopher is mentioning (and I believe this is default) and second unit was with r2r as the owner made a specific order with r2r.

Which one?

I have R2R, and I prefer it that way after comparisons at Lampi factory, so you have a natural correlation to smart people liking R2R

Sorry, but you have never heard engine 53. I prefer it to the R2R. I have done a compare of sorts. Much has changed since you last did the factory visit, indeed since the start of 2019.
