Yesterday, I received another Master Signature but with 1.1 mV from ddk. I think the difference in sound from my 0.5mV will be insignificant but let's see. The Master Sig that I have been playing now has more than 300 hrs I will send it to look at. But not that there is anything wrong with it. In fact I wish to say at 300 hrs it has the highest transparency of any carts I tried. Beat the Opus1 on this regard. Also I ordered three pairs of Telefunken 12AX7 smooth plate to try with my EMT phono. Thanks to our forum member Ovenmitt, he tried both the Telefunken and Mazda with his EMT phono and told me there is a big fish of improvement. If the Telefunken works well I will get some Mazda for my other Phono for a flavor.

I very much respect that the English language is used to great effect by many that are not native to the tongue.

How do we manage to reduce our learning by using said tongue to bicker in a derisory manner?

Please teach and cooperate?

Dear Sujay,

I think for vdh we have to keep playing for quite a while if at first we hear something strange. For example I used to write to ddk to tell him that my Master Sig sounded skew to the left. It was not the azimuth. But now it no longer skew to the left. I dont know why.

I have also sen back my 1.1mV for readjustment and checking. I am really excited and hope Mr. A.J can adjust it for my std 4 point. I got a 9" 4 point just to accommodate the colibri but I like my 11" 4 point better so now I wait...

Hi Folsom,

I still dont understand why you see it this way.
For example my 'ultimate' linestage is unchanged in terms of materials since its introduction in 2015 and no intention to change it.
My phono stages are similarly stable in terms of revisions . Over the years different power amps joined the line up with different tubes. The latest being the 46. And for me it was only natural to explore various circuit topologies with this tube which I have used with other tubes before.

And with a tube factory at hand there is also the possibility to utilise it to explore new ways of doing things. Whats wrong with that? Should manufacturers stop coming out with new things? As you develop and build equipment you learn along the way and it is only natural to feed such experience back into the products

I rarely get the impression that customers who have gear from me get the itch to change it just because I come out with something new

This seems to be proved out by the lack of Mayer product on the used market.

Maybe it would simply appease people to announce a new model is coming up so many months, or a year ahead of time? That way people wouldn't buy until it came out? That isn't necessarily good for the company but would certainly have a bit of agency with consumer?

Isn't this essentially what TechDAS and Wilson did with the launch of the Zero and WAMM? There was so much discussion and speculation for what seems like months or even years before the products were actually released. There were even advance teases with prototypes and videos and exclusive debut auditions and very limited availability.

Pass Labs did something similar with their current line of preamps and phono stages. They released the XP12 and XP17 to replace the entry level XP10 and XP15. At the same time they announced the XP22 and XP25 which would not appear for at least a year. The previously announced XP32 has still not been released, after about two years.

Wilson and Magico are releasing teaser videos months before the product is officially announced, which is often months before it is ready for shipping.

So, it seems some of this is happening now, though these seem to be exceptions and not the norm.

There does seem to be a relentless and automatic price increase with every new design which often seems to bear little or no connection to the incremental manufacturing cost increase, if any, of the new design. Cartridges appear to be among the worst offenders here.

Cartridges are interesting. Often, they simply change the material of the cantilever and perhaps coils or stylus shape slightly and call it a new model with a higher price. However, these changes can certainly affect the sound, and with a couple of great reviews and buzz, they are off.

SME is one company that rarely changes models. The 309, IV, and V arms and Model 10, 20 and 30 turntables have been in production for a very long time. They do make changes to the motors or drive control but don't really discuss them. For a while the motor controller could be replaced for an updated unit. The US prices also were reduced recently which was kind of a surprise. I think the current retail of my SME30/12A turntable and arm package is actually less now than it was when I bought mine six years ago.

In the end, the market is free and we make our decisions. The market is small though, and inefficient. And marketing, reviews, and forum chat seem to have a pretty big influence on purchase decisions for some specific products. I think the good news is that there are good sounding components at all price levels, and much of what makes a system sound good is only dependent on component matching, speaker/room matching, and system set up, which for the most part are all free.

Perhaps the most interesting thing for me is how wildly different so many system are. Their owners follow their own paths based on any number of reasons and experiences and interests, and they achieve, for the most part, systems with which they are very satisfied.

I am very happy with CH and i think they are very serious.The only line,the 1 exit 7 years ago and they never did MK II,MK III,ecc, like near all companies.
For 7 years did only one line with the possibility to upgrade with external supply or do mono,and is really incredible upgrade M1 to M 1.1
I never listen in my life.

The problem is that all top companies has to be something special for Asian market,for example Riviera company told me that their Asian distributor claim that the power amp mono 50 watt is too small,so they did now a 100 watt mono amp and a pre special edition.
Italian distributor of Boulder told me Boulder was obliged from their Asian distributor to do a bigger line than 2000,so they did 3000 line bigger for Asia market.
This is what is happening.
So also CH did for this
