I have heard a dual woofer configuration on a completely different system yet it sounded just right. I felt it would actually blend better with my system than the one I heard. Dual woofers were more than enough on that system but my room is a little bigger and my speakers are much more dynamic so I pulled the trigger on a triple woofer version. If it does not work out I can go back to my current setup. I had to try this on my own setup and there was no other way to do it but import them.

What would Rommey think? I wish you luck my friend, it is a more elegant solution than your current set up.

Another option would be to construct an Edgar Seismic Sub. Also extremely impressive with spherical time aligned horns.

I love your system and room Komodo... and you're a very lucky guy to have a wife that shares (or at least accommodates) your passion for audio.

I haven't heard anyone comment or mention the ceiling diffuser... did you build that too? And is it made of wood or foam blocks?

Nice work!

Thank you Jazzman! The diffusors on the ceiling are Vicoustic Multifuser DC2. They are made of high quality expanded polystrene.

Hi Kodomo,

Please could you share some more details about your new bass solution - sounds very interesting. How is it sounding?

Cool. I’d try to pull them forward a little so they don’t load the corner as much. It looks like there is some room.

Looking forward to comments once you get phase and such dialed in!

In fact it looks as though they could move right behind the lip of the main speakers. They don't need to be in line with the horn drivers or facing the exact same direction since they aren't playing anywhere near 250hz. Just the phase needs to be set at a good place, and not have big boost or suck out at wrong frequency from approximation of location. They'll sound their best when phase and FR are best, all that other "alignment" stuff won't do anything as the frequencies are too long and omni-directional.

I'm liking the look of the room as well, btw.

Hi Kodomo,

They are triple 12" GR-Research SW-12-16fr servo woofers in open baffle H frames powered by their propriety amps (balanced versions). It is fairly early to reach to conclusions but I can start by telling you what I have measured. The ob servo bass system is digging deeper and have a more linear response than my dual bass reflex and tapped horns. Maybe having one less channel helped too. I use a second order filter on the lower knee of my midbass horn and second order on the upper knee of the ob bass system and they cross at 110hz. I physically moved the bass system to be in phase with the rest of the horns. So the phase/delay is set at 0 on the amps. I did this via measuring.

Cool. I’d try to pull them forward a little so they don’t load the corner as much. It looks like there is some room.

Well, they are about 4 feet away from the structural wall. The wooden panel false wall that is behind them is a 2 dimensional binary diffuser with about 12inches of absorbent material behind.

They sound and measure different when they are completely blocked by the midbass horns lips. It was very easy to put them in phase, I was suprised. I physically put the center driver at the same distance from my listening point to start with and from there it was just some small movements that made small improvements. They are in phase and cross to midbass beautifully, there are no large dips in response too, except for an -3db dip at 40hz which is quite alright by me. I am using 20hz extension setting with high damping as of now. High damping setting matches the midbass horn the best.

My first impressions are positive, I thought there would be less impact with the ob system and I was completely wrong. It has more impact than my previous solution. It integrates well with the horns and the room. I will have to listen much more to talk about their tonality.

You can see the bass section here with and without the grills.

I took one double tier rack out and got two SRA Ohio xl+2 for my set mono blocks. So it looks a little more compact and hopefully will sound better too. I also took the Studer closer to the system, no more 6 meter cables for that one. I will surely be changing my preamp to a Emia Silver balanced remote autoformer and also plan on getting a Van den Hul Grail SB phono pre to match my VdH Colibri ms strad. Not much of a gear lust, bu I can not get over getting more and more LP's and tape.

The system is looking great, I like the new racking, it is a cleaner presentation. So, has the bass change worked out?

Yes, it took some more adjustments with the bass but I think I am there. The servo OB solution is working really well. I attach a photo of the last placement.

Really love your room- appears very well thought out
Thanks a lot. I am an architect and I have built this house which is a summer house next to my hotel. The house has no structural elements within its living space and is also elevated from the ground. So changing rooms and even adding bathrooms is no big deal. I have completely changed the interior for three times. When I built these speakers I combined two rooms which were the main room and my recording studio to be able to accommodate them. Then when I got married we added half of a guest room to main living space and added the other half of the guest room to our master bedroom. We also added a bathroom to master bedroom.

The main room where we spend our lives and where we also listen to music or watch movies has been measured and the acoustic treatments are applied accordingly by me. The other side of the room is lovely as well, we have a beautiful sea view and the house surrounded by old pine trees. I will try and share a photo of it. Then it is easier to understand the size. It is 11 meters from the glass windows to binary diffuser wall with the living moss garden. The sun is really shining so I can not take a good photo. Sorry as all these are phone camera photographs...
