And some talk show had two people arguing if the credit of this Davis deal goes to Pelinka or Rich Paul.

There is no moral lesson he but rather $100's of millions of dollars in contracts, giving up future draft choices to cow tow to a 35 yo self proclaimed monarch who Jeannie continues to feel he will lead them to the finish line now.All they have is now because when the King is gone the others will jump ship as free agents and they will again be mired in the bottom of the west with no draft choices to improve the team.

Seeing that groin injury last year tells me father time is creeping up on this guy and he is vulnerable. Groin injuries can become recurrent

Phil

the reality is that the credit goes to neither. It goes to that manipulator who calls himself King

Report: Celtics' Al Horford to become unrestricted free agent

From NBA Twitter and media reports

Another one of the Boston Celtics' top in-house free agents appears set to not opt into his deal as well.

Center Al Horford is reportedly not exercising the $30.1 million option on his contract for 2019-20, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, and will become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Less than a week ago, Celtics star guard Kyrie Irving decided to not opt into his deal for next season as well.

Boston Celtics center Al Horford will not exercise the $30.1M option on his 2019-20 contract and become an unrestricted free agent, league sources tell ESPN. Horford and the Celtics both have interest in working toward a new deal in July, sources tell ESPN.

Wojnarowski reports Horford and the Celtics have interest in working toward a new deal in July. Additionally, his agreeing to a new deal would help Boston's salary cap flexibility. Team president Danny Ainge said in early June that he was hoping to discuss restructuring the All-Star big man's contract, a move he called a priority this summer.

A five-time All-Star, Horford averaged 13.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.3 blocks per game last season for the Celtics, appearing and starting in 68 games. Overall, the former No. 3 pick in the 2007 draft has averaged 14.1 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 3.2 apg and 1.2 bpg in his career.

Not good news , Steve. But hope he would agree to restructure. Ainge needs to do some things quick now.

It will be interesting to watch. Hope LeBron doesn't turn into an end of career Kobe redux...don't want to see that happen to anyone.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the relationship between LeBron and AD. Significant friction with AD could mean a disaster scenario - Davis leaves at the end of next season.

Listened to the Bill Simmons podcast this morning about this trade and it was quite interesting.

Edit - Guess I wrote the word interesting a few too may times in this post. Should have waited to cool off when I returned from my walk. :)

Curious to see what happens with the Clippers in free agency, too. They could come up empty handed with three of the top free agents either injured or holding an NBA championship trophy with his current team.

The one kicker that I read yesterday that regardless of Davis going to the Lakers he WILL enter free agency to test the market. The only way apparently he won't is to see what players the Lakers pay a fortune for in order to make the Lakers a "now" contender.

One of these acquisitions could become the face of the Lakers once James is finally gone yet AD won't assume that role as he would lock himself into the same fate as he was in while playing for the Pets, should he re-sign a lock term Lakers contract

Steve, this is where I am a bit confused after hearing Ramona Shellburn and Brian Windhorst say on ESPN that Davis cannot sign an extension with the Lakers for 6 months. The implication is that LAL and Davis will miss the extension signings deadline and hence Davis will really go into the FA market regardless.

I hear Kendrick Perkins, of all people, say that James will play like an MVP till he is 40. This was echoed by Stephen A and Shannon Sharpe. Needless to say, long stretch fan boys they are. James, since the Decision 1, has become so egotistical and class A super confident on his physical prowess. As you said, Steve, that groin injury last season cast your doubts on his future. But it's funny that a lot of talk now is that a week ago, the Lakers were a dysfunctional team top to bottom, and with the AD news, the Lakers are now the title favorites. :D

I'm rooting for Kawhi to join the Clipper long term. I'd like to see Doc handle a title contending team again. :) They have 2 max caps slots, and in Clippers land, the logo, or motto, should be - in West We Trust. :D

The guy played with a lot of heart. Sad to see him leave. But, it frees up $30m to sign some bigger guy. Danny now has a lot of young one's. This is now all up to Tatum. :D

I thought Horford was opting out to get a new, longer term deal with the Celtics.

Pretty tough to give a 33 year old player an expensive long term deal.

Truth is there are a lot of teams with a lot of money to spend in free agency this year so some deals will be made that don't make sense.

Agree. These oldish players long term contracts - like CP3s...it's either the agents are good or the GMs are bad. :)

And when I see Van Vleet earning $8m and Siakam at $1.5m this season, I am lost as to why Michael Jordan pays Batum $24m, Biyombo $17m, and only $12m for Kemba Walker. Well, John Wall just got a 4 yr extension, paying him a staggering $47m on his 4th year. WOW.

What’s the feeling of the fans in LA? If they win, is all ok or is there some sentiment that it’s a bunch of strangers in the court?

We’ll see who wants that contract. That team looks to implode.

Raise your hand if you’re sick of disgruntled stars.

4-year $159m contract, of which 1 yr just passed. Aging and less and less effective.

I raise my hand.

And I have high high respect for one Serge Ibaka. Gasol came in and dislodged him from the starter position. He would be playing like 9 minutes a game and score a few points for several games. But he never said a word, and when the playoffs came and his number was called, he performed as well as he could have, scoring, blocking and rebounding, like nothing happened. A super pro if I ever saw one. He has a big salary but that never got into his head. Hats off.

I always liked Ibaka, especially back in his Thunder years

Chris Paul has overstepped his welcome everywhere. My perception of him changed when as a player he thought it was ok to raid the locker rooms of opposing teams

The Rockets under Dantoni will never win with his:style of offense and no defense
