@Lockeray how is the 300B treating you since your last post? Has some of the lost magic returned? Any new observations?

It's been a bit of a roller coaster ride. There are good days and bad days. I think it takes a bit of time to stabilise. I did some tweaks such a dressing the cables and cleaning out the connectors and those helped as well.

Overall once its settled down... The acme 300bs are expressive and refined sounding and very pleasing to the ears. So much so that I decided to take a step further and made the purchase of the acme 845s. I alrdy have it and will be hooking it up soon. Will post further impressions soon.

Cheers,
Ray

My experience has been the same. The tubes sounded better than stock right out of the box and keep getting better. I have about 100 hours on my 300B and 845 ACME tubes and am very happy with them. The only unexpected issue was a slight high pitch from my tweeter. I re seated the 300B on both channels and have not heard it since. It was a relief when the ever so slight high pitch sound was gone. I do not know if the pitch was a seating issue or part of the break in process.

Still looking researching pre-amps. PSAUDIO has my attention now.

Kind regards,

Jeff

Figured out the high pitched noise....I recently switched to a Google Fi phone which uses T-mobile and Sprint. Since the change from Verizon I have heard the high pitch when my cell phone is in my audio room.

I have swapped out my shuguang we 845s for the acme 845s. Now my lm 219s are running on both the acme 300bs and 845s. With the new acme 845s, the highs are more refined and well controlled. In certain tracks that seemed a touch too harsh before, it's now much smoother with better air and extension. Besides that it provides better punch and dynamics. Yet while it provides the grunt, it does so in a nuanced and detailed manner.

With both the acme 300bs and 845s, it comes the best of both world. Speed, detail, punch at one end and the soul reaching intimacy of the Sets. Price point wise and performance wise, this is definitely a sweet spot for me.

That’s great news... I’d better pick up my act a bit and get some proper valves happening soon... you guys are all racing away to better hifi happiness and I wanna be getting me some of that Psvane acme action.

Has anyone compared the Elrog tube to the Acme’s? I’m interested in both (845 tubes) for my Nagra. Also, are these tubes larger in diameter than stock 845’s?

Thanks in advance for any opinions or help on this,

Chris

My first pair of ACME 300Bs had one unruly tube and were sent back. The second pair arrived late last week. I have only 30 hours on them so far of mostly frictionless media served on autopilot.

Once they have a couple more weeks in the socket, I'll start to listen more critically and roll them in comparison to both Sophia's Royal Princess' and their diminutive blue bottle WE repro's.
Hello
I am very interested to comparison of Acme Vs Sophia Royal Princess that i find really fantastic. Brgds

Somebody claimed that

Acme 300b tubes supplied the most beautiful 8 watts or so i have ever heard. This time they replaced the Sophia Electric Royal Princess 300b’s which were already very engaging to begin with. Music effortlessly played against a pitch black background. Highs were airy, midrange was surreal and bass was accurate. Instruments were incredibly textured and transparent. I couldn’t bring myself to stop listening even after my wife called me three or four times to eat one of my favorite meals. I was blown away and completely lost in the music i was listening to. Soundstage was wide and deep way beyond where my speakers were placed. The midrange sounded slightly forward on some tracks but it wasn’t so much as “In your face so”. It was like the artists were performing 2 or 3 feet in front of me. Warm and engaging but very transparent indeed

I myself have Sophia Princess 300B carbon plate tube not Royal Princess.

Sophia Princess 300B carbon plate sounds round and full without etched high.

But after replacing Sophia Princess 300B carbon plate with Acme 300B, it sounds more transparent and detailed with deeper bass slam.

Thus Sophia Princess 300B carbon plate is no contest to Acme 300B at all.

I bought mine from below link.

https://www.hifi-amplifiers.com/en/...-tube-replace-we300b-matched-pair-p-5262.html

The dealer shipped it very fast with good communication.

What I like about LM508 after changing into Acme 805 and 300B is beautiful tone out of violin.

I am listening to above music through redbook CD now.

There is one more thing that I can do to improve LM 508, that is to replace key resistors , capacitors and input and speaker connectors with better quality ones.

But even without it, I am happy with LM 508 as of now.

I have no plan to add pre-amplifier to it.

Thomas, I would definitely recommend adding a preamp to the LM508ia especially because you are enjoying it so much in its current configuration. You have an amazing complement of tubes in it but their full glory is hindered by the preamp section's volume control. Moving to the volume control of my Golden Gate DAC was a significant improvement. A Coincident Statement Linestage was an even larger improvement albeit with too much gain since the gain section of the LM508ia isn't bypassed in its Pre In mode (a disappointing design flaw). I have since ordered a lower gain preamp which I will receive in a couple of weeks.

Yesterday, after getting my third replacement tube I sat down and listen to the new acme 845 at last. The other tubes on were we300b+ replica and we310a replica by psvane and Takatsuki 274b rectifier.

The sound was incredible, even for its first day. I am very happy that I insisted on getting the acme's. Airy, detailed but no etching, great tone and holography.

Hi guys,

Has anyone had the chance to compare Psvane WE Replica 300B and Acme 300B tubes? I am considering one of these on my LM219 amp as driver tubes to work with Acme845s on power section.

Mainly wondering if Acme 300B has the well-known characteristics of classical 300Bs, such as lovely midrange, musical presentation... or they are closer to modern hifi sound?

Comments appreciated..

thanks

Doruk

I had not listened to Psvane WE Replica 300, but only Psvane Cossor Valve and Acme 300B.

Cossor is no match to Acme in transparency and dynamics although the former is more affordable..

I also have a Nos WE 300B made in 1940's.

Psvane Acme 300B sounds sweeter than Nos WE 300B while Nos WE 300B sounds slightly tighter than Acme in bass.

I recommend you to buy Psvane Acme 300B, if you can afford.

Have you had some good time with the Acme 845s? What are your impressions so far?

Many thanks for the reply Thomask,

It was surprising me that you prefer the Acme300b over the 40`s WEs, it is even great to hear they are in the same league..

Acme300b and the 40`s WEs are not in the same league.

40`s WEs has more bass slam and wider soundstage but Acme 300B sounds sweeter with musicality.

You have to spend around 10k$ to get pair of 40`s WE 300B.

But Acme 300B approach 80% of the performance of 40`s WE 300B at 1/10th price.

Microzotl mz3 used as pre for the 219ia would be my pick... in fact that is possibly my next upgrade... has quite a bit of improvement overall in sq over the mz2 apparently with additional dynamics and additional resolution which means it must be fairly sensational because the Mz2 has these qualities in spades already. Same tubes essentially as the mz2 but a much improved external linear psu and improved circuit boards also with a better stepped attenuator.

OI ordered the MicroZotl mz3 yesterday and am looking forward to using it as a pre-amp for the LM-219ia and Headphone amp for Fostex cans. After much back and forth between the PrimaLuna EVO300 and mz3 I chose the mz3.

I will update you guys on what (if any) improvement to the listening experience.

Qobuz- Intel NUC - Audivarna - Chord Qutest - LM-Integrated - Klipsch Cornwall III

Congratulations 2 channel, I upgraded the psu in the MZ2 to a Vinshine linear supply and am so happy since. Somewhere down the track I may still try the MZ3 and then use the MZ2 as headphone amp in a separate headphone setup.

I have a Chord TT2 (and Chord M Scaler :) much love there for the combo) but my beating valve heart still belongs to the Microzotl as a headphone amp.

Very much looking forward to hearing about your experiences with the MZ3. Actually on second thoughts don’t tell me... I probably need to avoid any encouragement to expand on my current setups.
