For overtly political threads like the recent one, those should be shut down immediately and the person who started it held responsible.

To be fair, it is not at all obvious that the person who *started* that thread had it in mind to be political. The links that the thread started with were scientific ones. Should he have realized it would turn political? Perhaps, perhaps not.

It's sad that more people can't have discussions without getting personally offended.

It's not just technology, policy and politics, but everything including audio. Amir, Peter B, etc...

A general remedy is to remember not to take anything too seriously... It's all illusory, impermanent, and we're all going to die much sooner than we think. :)

To me this a typical post of yours where either on purpose or not you have a tendency to fan the flames. Knock it off

I think he should get a pass for being English. It's in their genes... ;)

That idea was conditional on the "no politics" injunction not being upheld. It remains to be seen if the new approach will be made to work. It won't surprise me if some of the wisecrackers and ideologues try to test it.

In a sense what I was suggesting is for threads (not people) to be banned or more correctly to be banished to the politics corral. My thinking here is for thread participants to react to attempted politicization by shaming those who want to corrupt a legitimate thread. If enough people get PO'd that a legitimate thread was made political and moved, maybe the collective will get serious about no politics. I have no clue if this would work, but part of the goal is to take the monitoring & enforcement burden off the moderators. Maybe a thread could be moved to the verboten zone, but none could be created there. This may be too much finesse. Ultimately I don't care as long as the political 'stuff' is not tolerated.

For overtly political threads like the recent one, those should be shut down immediately and the person who started it held responsible.

all nice thoughts gentlemen but as Ron said it isn't going to happen nor is the desire to ban anyone. We hope that men can be men and if we buy into the no politics then nothing will happen

We also thought of ack's suggestion to immediately close anything political but again we feel closing threads is a form of censure. What works is that every one make a concerted effort to think before they push the post button and let's all try to keep the peace

Didn't think of that lately. That's a nice thought to end the day. Good night (I'm on East Coast).

Actually, it's a serious point. Just what did you/all of you, think would happen w the aforementioned thread?

Some sharing of differing opinions, brotherhood of man stuff? It was always going to be political from the get go. To think otherwise is naive in the extreme.

Yes, my point is serious. Why not have a thread about Brexit? If you think you can keep it apolitical.

And I don't take to being told to knock it off Steve. Nothing political there from you, 100% personal.

I agree that Brexit is inherently political.

The Global Warming thing is ALWAYS a political trap. It's more like the thought police trying to identify the tiniest naysayers and non-believers. It happens in Santa Cruz when somebody chimes, "...and what about Global Warming/Climate Change". It means "time to guzzle your coffee and run, the climate Jehovah's Witnesses are at the doorstep again."

What is the number one best thing we all love beyond anything else?
Our planet in a safe healthy music listening environment with all the people who create it.

Al is 100% right above (post #61); Climate Changes are everyday's part of important news.
I never wanted to create divisions, just the exact opposite...unification in our effort to all live healthier. I'm an audiophile with a planet system hobbie...make it healthier to breathe.
That's what I did my entire life.

Screw politics, I hate politics. I'm 100% towards putting in practice what's best for humanity and our world (music and clean air). If you only knew ... but that's not my intention to prove anything with words.

Don't blame me for starting things that I started since I was a young boy and till I die.
I never involved politics with my work, ever never.
Some of my very best friends are audio dealers. They hate politics as much as I do.

For the people who are afraid, who want to punish someone, who want real justice, look in the mirror of life and your neighborhood burn down to the ground ...

To add to political/environmental post "facts" is that you can find "Science " facts that support any view point you choose to align with. Science and scientists are wrong everyday. Just because you find something that aligns with you does not make you holier than thou and every one else be damned. At this point the gross generalizations of everyone that does not agree with you starts followed by name calling.
Anything environmental or governmental is going to go there immediately or eventually, every single time.
I see two options here, delete the entire post immediately.
Start a politics forum and let her rip. Move everything there.
But most of all I thing people need to stop being pussy's and quit sniveling to moderators over this stuff.
Seriously guys Steve and Ron spending even one second on this is ludicrous.

The very first sentence in the linked-to content in the very first post said: "Over 15,000 scientists signed an open letter published in BioScience warning humanity that we need to change our behaviours in order to protect the planet." That's not science, that's an imperative.

I've said all I want to say on this topic

Fair enough.

It would be a terrible thing if scientific understanding got buried in political rhetoric. Opinions are valuable but they are not science. I also champion the need to be apolitical but discussing scientific evidence does not have to be geared towards political leanings. Truth is truth. Now more than ever we need to have clarity and develop an objective scientific understanding of the impacts of our current behaviour. Self serving political aims aren’t part of the way forward at any rate. Honesty and common sense is the way forward. We have serious questions being asked which we need to understand more fully without any political agendas being served.

Mike, we can say the same with everything that aligns with audio voodoo magic.
Science and scientists are wrong everyday.
Just because someone finds something that aligns with him/her does not make him/her holier than thou and every one else is damned.

We use our brain to balance our lives, to know the difference between what's true and not, the difference between what's right and wrong. Every day we look for the best outcomes, not just for us for all of us and them. We live in a system, a system we create ourselves, nobody else. Nobody is responsible for all the good things and all the bad things, we are all.

We hate politics, and yet we created it, we vote.

Some members here don't believe in science; science of air pollution, science of warmer temperatures, science of the melting of our polar caps, science of audio, science of crowded cities, science of electric versus gasoline cars, science of human social studies, of wildlife species extinction, science of rain forests, science of water, food, plastics, French fries, MacDonald, science of beef cattle, science of reforestation, science of forest management, science of timber, science of timbre (audio).

Others believe in anything and everything; hockey pucks, rubber hoses, fast cars, fast life, fast lane, fast food, fast communication, fast internet speed, fast subwoofers, fast drugs, fast guns, fast planes, fast trains, ...

We blame nobody, we judge no one, we do our best to be happy and survive.
The wife of a friend judge (Superior Court) said that music is good for children...good music, not crap music. She's a retired teacher, her husband is still working...mid seventies (bigger pension later on).
We talk of future, children, music, vacations, films, docs, food, the world social, cultural, economic, ecologic, scientific, physic, psychologic, universal trends ...

Unfortunately, you overestimate human nature.

"Theoretically" as you say, yes, but human nature is sometimes like the bad implementations of early digital ;). It should theoretically work, until you realize that it doesn't as you thought it should. I am not excluding myself from that, being human myself (obviously).
Is it an overestimation? I can get pretty annoyed and want to flatten someone in person if i get insulted but on my computer? To me it’s very easy to maintain a modicum of civility Online. If not, we should refrain from buying that new cable and and go get some help!:p

Aah, but that's you. Good for you, but you can't generalize, unfortunately. I don't have as easy a time with that and have to work on it, and very, very obviously I am not the only one! :p:eek:

So yes, it is an overestimation.

If not, we should refrain from buying that new cable and and go get some help!:p

Or buy that darn new cable and go get some help.:p

Yeah I too wonder about the complainants. They probably must have an impression of how noble they are in terms of community management and their ability to identify the wrong doers which are never them

Let’s be real here. It’s a bunch of wealthy senior citizens on this site who can’t handle not being in control. They were always the bossman and would simply fire anyone in real life who didn’t agree with them. Now they have to revert back to their youth and run to mommy.
