Tinka and I were trying to figure out a board game to get during "shelter at home," and I remembered that I used to enjoy a board game called Stratego.

Monopoly is fun with a group, but I really don't think it is fun with only two players.

Who remembers Stratego?

Who still plays Stratego?

Played it, loved it...will be teaching it to my daughter soon. We play a lot of Monopoly, she loves it and it is good for her math skills (she is 7) because she always wants to be the banker!

The box cover you show must be a newer version. The original pieces were painted blocks of wood without buttresses.

The red pieces with embossed gold represent Conrad-Johnson, the blue with silver are Audio Research.
That would be a REALLY old version!

I had a friend that had first edition Risk, which also had painted wooden pieces.

Yes, and early edition Monopoly had wood houses and motels along with nicely turned wood games pieces.

Irkutsk to Kamchatka ... boxcars!
Yeah, Risk was one of my favorite games of all time...played it non-stop as a kid...

Success! Tinka liked Stratego a lot! (It didn't hurt that it was invented by a Dutchman.)

I found it to be fun too! It is really a very good game. It hasn't lost anything with the passage of decades.

Just make sure she wins once in a while ;)

Still have my Stratego that I bought around 72. Great game, and have introduced this to my kids. Another game that we got into the mid 90s and played with the kids is Carcassonne. This is still being played and is engaging as you have can have multiple players.

I played many a game of stratego during those bad weather days growing up and having to stay inside or having a friend over.. we managed to survive without the net ! we even drank water from a garden hose or spicket.. .. Very classic fun game ! thanks for sharing..

Board games have become a fantastic way to pass the time during the "shelter at home" period. While Monopoly is fun with a group, I completely agree that it loses some of its charm with only two players. Lately, to mix things up, I've been exploring various board games and card games that are perfect for two players. Alongside Stratego, games like Catan, Ticket to Ride, and Jaipur have been great choices. But you know what's really caught my attention? Double deck pinochle played online! It's a captivating card game that keeps you on your toes with its intricate strategies and teamwork.
