There are a few types of I2S standard in the current market. The most common ones are:

LVCMOS
  • Usually via RJ45 connector (I2S-C for the case of Terminator/Plus)
  • Native/Raw I2S signal from the DSP (CPLD/FPGA, varies between manufacturers)
  • Sensitive to noise and cable quality & length
  • Required a very-short RJ45 cable interconnect <= 5-30cm

LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signaling)
  • Usually via HDMI connector (I2S-A & I2S-B for the case of Terminator/Plus)
  • Realized by Texas Instrument DS90LV047A Line Driver / DS90LV048A Line Receiver
  • Excellent drive & immunity to external noise

Some said less is more, and some said otherwise. Which is better? For you to find out :D

HDMI and RJ45 are both i2s, so I wouldn't think one would be better than the other? Of course if I am wrong, let me know. This is my first time running an i2s connection.
HDMI is a better connection Blake. Maybe Alvin can chime in and back up my claim.

No sir, it can't. The 'HDMI' I2S protocol is not compatible with the typical multimedia HDMI output. Please do not connect the Bluray/DVD player HDMI to the HDMI I2S input of the DAC.

You may connect the Coax / Optical output from the Oppo150D to the Terminator-Plus :)

Thanks for catching that. I now see the RJ45 output from the Gaia is I2S-C, and not I2S-B, so my I2S would be LVCMOS if I used RJ45 from Gaia to the Terminator Plus.

Looks like I now have one extra Sablon 2020 Ethernet to sell. Did you ever get your Tubulus HDMI? If so, what do you think about it?

U are on a roll I see. I'm pretty sure the Tubulus will be an excellent addition, remember though that its made solely for audio and the video pins have been disabled. U will not be able to use it as a regular HDMI cable.

Please share your experience with the cable. I will get one for sure once things are a bit settled in this parts of the world.

Sablon doesn't do HDMI cables so I asked Mark Coles of Sablon for an HDMI recommendation. He recommended the Tubulus so that was good enough for me.

1-2 week build time.

I’m not surprised at all CK, it’s a really good DAC which will keep the owner happy for a very long time.
We need to put it up against the best to see how well it performs. Any takers?

Btw, did they get the Gaia too?

Hello,

I am interested in your opinion on the T+ as I am a Terminator owner myself with the 2019 card.

I would also like to have your opinion on adding Gaïa to my Terminator even if I upgrade it with the 2020 card ?

Is it as qualitative as a T+ ?

Thanking you
Gipe

Oh yeah! Its party time. Looking forward to your reports, particularly when combined with the Gaia and clock cables.
