I’ve been in the process of building out a Garrard 401 for the last 7 months. I procured a minty 401 from a fellow member, and upgraded the bearing and idler wheel. The last piece of the puzzle is the plinth. I’ve elected to go with a wood plinth sandwiched between two pieces of aluminum.
Peter at PBN is making the plinth for me, the final project will look very much like his Denon 308.

I can’t wait to hear the final product.

Very nice. How do you "glue" the aluminum to wood?

One layer of aluminium, another one titanium is a better combination.

Jeff, that is a nice photo of the turntable top plate set into a routed out section of the plinth's metal top plate. What is the advantage of setting in inside rather than surface mounting it on top of the plinth? Is the plinth being designed for two 12" arms?
There is no advantage, just ascetics. The table is being designed with two 12” arms, both with removable aluminum arm boards.

Nice. Do you know if the 401 top plate will be bolted all the way through to the bottom plinth plate? That would seem like one way to mass load the 401 and take advantage of the constrained layered plinth: one giant clamping structure. I'm just curious to learn what the designer plans to do and why. It looks like it is a very serious project, and it will be a lovely looking table also.

Once you have bolts passing through it would be no more a constrained layer design.
