Calling Audiophiles & Music Lovers !

Normally during the Christmas holidays, we organise at least four music sessions and invite friends over to listen to the latest Demo compilation and ask their opinion of each song. Criteria used:
1. Musically interesting. If you don't want to hear this again - then let’s skip.
2. Emotionally engaging, moves you to dance or slump down & cry.
3. Spectacular sonics; this is why we all entered the hobby in the first place. To hear all of what was recorded, every small detail.
4. Soundstage - if there is no soundstage, let's skip the song.
5. Musical Genres; let's give the listener a taste of many genres. excluding Rap & Heavy Metal in particular. But otherwise there is a wide, wide world of choices all across the globe.

BTW, I have not finished with the Classical selections yet. would really like one or two great Blues songs. Thanks folks.

A FAVOUR PLEASE

Would you mind listening to the W.I.P. version of Demo XXIII and sharing with us, your favourite 3 songs. If you like more, please share.
But the three songs you pick, how do they sound like on your system ? Links: Qobuz Tidal.

Thank you so much for helping in this quest for compiling the best Demo CD.

warm regards
Philip

Yesterday I had the privilege of hosting Philip at my house where we spent several hours going through the 43 selections he has so far in consideration for this year's demo disc (number XXlll to be exact)

How Philip finds all of this beautiful music is beyond me but he has every year for the last 23 years. I listened to artists yesterday of whom I have never heard. I would encourage everyone to have a listen and rate the music as Philip has requested as this will help him narrow done the contenders so that he can place all the finalists on a single CD. He still has yet to offer any of his suggestions in classical music. What I heard yesterday was a great collection of male and female voices that we narrowed down. If you use his Qobuz rather than Tidal play list you will hear the hi res versions. Typically Philip does needle drops from the LP tracks of the finalists and the end result is his CD. I have the good fortune of owning all prior 22 demo disks and I have also had the privilege of some of my own music making it to the final CD.

I would encourage everyone to listen to his playlist and vote for your favorites and stay tuned for the classical music recommendations that the is working on for consideration

Okay so using GoBuz, my headphones and dac I did not initially hear any issues with sound quality. I'll try Tidal next.

Which version of Boom, boom. boom, boom; he seems to have recorded it many times. Thanks

Forget GoBuz , Go straight to Tidal. Some selections would not play on GoBuz.

First off, a big shout out to Steve for inviting me over to his home & enjoying a wonderful music session together. I have missed our music sessions. As the vaccine is rolled out across a wider swath of the population, I expect my friends will be more forthcoming about attending our music sessions.

It's always great to hear how the songs play on another system. Some of the songs really pop on vinyl. Interestingly enough, most of the songs this year are available on LP.

Steve Strauss "Dirt" is only available on SACD, while the Lauren Michaels & JP Saxe duet is only available on a 7" single - yuck.

Though many of the classical selections will probably not be available on LP either. Delighted to hear how some of the songs really show off the system and are so engaging.

Happy listening,
Philip
