Totaldac is announcing the new d100 speakers.

d100_side.jpg

The d100 speakers have been designed to offer the most natural music reproduction while being compatible with your living room and without being too expensive.
Their high sensitivity allow them to produce a very controlled sound at all frequencies and with realistic and rich bass, making them suitable for all types of music genres, from classical music to electro.

With the d100 speakers are so fast that you get the "feeling of being there" with most music tracks, not just with some selected tracks.

During the design phase some music recorded by Totaldac in the large Totaldac auditorium have also been used.
This gave an absolute feeling of how these instruments should sound.
The recording equipment will also be used to record the speaker themselves.
These corresponding videos will be posted on the Totaldac Youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMsrJl1A6snsuSjfbAH6rZA
The d100 have also been tested with success in small rooms.

You can give them a chance against any other speakers at any price and let the listening test decide which one gives you more pleasure.
A 20-day home trial is possible, just like all Totaldac DACs, streamers and amplifiers.

A first batch is currently in production for delivery to customers in spring 2021.
Orders are already open

preliminary specifications:
-98dB @ 1m @ 2.83V even in bass thanks to two 12inch drivers
-2.5way: both 12inch drivers are producing bass but only the top driver is producing midrange as well
-in room response: 35Hz-20KHz
-8ohm average impedance with very smooth variations
-easy matching with any amplifier, even low power triodes
-low directivity
-non-metal dome horn tweeter
-equally resolving from top to bottom
-most of the sound is coming from the top of the speaker, giving it a bookshelf speaker coherency
-all audio related components are from Western Europe manufacturers
-protection grills can be ordered separately
-made in France
-width: 320mm
-depth: 470mm
-height: 1180mm
-weight: 38kg

Thank you. Other finishes can be discussed but by default it is grey, like the d150-anniversary speakers.

Nice speakers, what will be the price? Totaldacs rooms have impressed me the two times I have been in München in 2018 and 2019:)

The new d100 speaker frequency response has been measured in two configurations:

-in room (measured in totaldac auditorium, using a Clio system, speaker close to a corner, microphone 40cm from the speaker, microphone between the midrange driver and the tweeter, 10 degree angle, unsmoothed curve)

d100_frequency_response_in_room.jpg

-in free field (measured outdoor far from any wall, speaker standing on the ground, using a Clio system, microphone 1m from the speaker, unsmoothed curve)

d100_bass_free_field_1m.jpg

So now the spec becomes:
bass cut-off: 25Hz at -6dB in room, 35Hz at -6dB in free field

The small drop at 160Hz is just due to the floor reflecting the wave to the measurement microphone.

I wish there was a pair of D150 speakers out here for me to listen to.....

I've also always wondered why the no VAT price seems to be less than the VAT in France? If i buy something from Germany or UK I get the full VAT amount off.

The difference in VAT is due to the fact that selling out of Europe is a bit more costly for the shipping (which is free for Totaldac electronics), product return, customs management, warranty, company insurance, after sale service...

I've wanted to hear the D150 for a while. Are there any in Hong Kong?
There is no d150-anniversary in Hong Kong sorry. You may visit France after the pandemic!
Also there is the Munich show, planned in September this year. I don't know yet if I will bring the d100 or d150.

Be careful to wet your appetite too much as you aren't allowed horn speakers anyways, right? :p ;)

Ben makes his own speakers and his demo room is not very large, so I don't think he will ever get a Totaldac speaker.

You could start getting the d100 which is much easier to ship by air. You will be surprised by the d100. It is so neutral and resolving.
