Interesting...I own both the newer models of both (800S and the HD650 (not 600 which I have heard is quite 'cool'). The 800S is technically very solid for the money, but not for me. After 60 days of trying to get it to work...I have decided having gotten it at a big discount to let it go. By contrast, the 650 is nowhere its technical equal, but I could listen to that all day long (and have done). Strong bass, smooth warm mids and overall a lifelike presentation even if again not a hugely technical performer...certainly a solid technical performer. For the money, in today's market, a steal.Looking for the polar opposite taste of Sennheiser 600/ 800, which I find severely sterile.
Thanks in advance
Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for also. And "natural" also But due to how the human brain processes subjective experiences, these terms mean different things to different people, based on their preferences and what they have experienced in the past. Hence, I titled the thread the way I did.just looking to enjoy organic warm nature with enough technical prowess to satisfy.
Yes, that makes sense. Speaking of which, if you hear the Empyrean please let us know what you think. Be interested. I do like them so far...have been borrowing a set for the last 2 weeks.Yes, that is exactly what I am looking for also. Great stuff! Had I known about this, I might have inquired...but having just acquired the EAR Yoshino HP4 (2nd hand in Singapore and refurbished by EAR in UK also)...unfortunately, it is the headphone itself I am now looking for.
Wow...I am turning red just reading this! It is a remarkably great experience...not that I would know having only ever owned one other amp (Arcam rHead for 250 bucks)...but given my experience with traditional speaker-based high-end audio, I CAN say I feel very much like the sound is 'consistent' with the sound I am getting out of the main system. I suppose that is best way I can put it.Hi LL,
Thanks for bringing up EAR Yoshino!!! How are you enjoying it?
As far as tube headphone amps go, I have only seriously heard Woo audio before. I know it's a popular brand among the head-fi enthusiasts, but every time I've heard it, it sounds slow, boring, and analytical, regardless of source or headphone. Interesting how the headphone culture has accepted and learned to love that type of sound....
Recently, I had the pleasure to hear it at a guys house. I snuck away into the headphone room for 30 minutes while the others were listening to the MSB system on famous box speakers (not my cup of tea). And it was a friggin epiphany! I never realized that headphones can carry so much emotion! Emotionally speaking, it sounded just like his horn - SET system! Even though the system was cold and not fired up in months.
Also, want to commend you on your Patience of Job for acquiring gear! I always prided myself on that ability, and now trying to teach my kids to delay gratification , but you definitely win the prize, hunting this thing down on another continent and getting it fixed at the factory!
Again, Thank you so much!

Hey Caesar,
I was meaning to ask you...which headphone did this person have with his EAR HP-4 Yoshino?
