Graham Audio - new LS5/5f - Shown at Munich, To Be Played in Long Beach at T.H.E. Show.

After its passive debut, at the Munich High-End 2022, here is an opportunity to hear these gorgeous mid-century modern towers sing their woofers out at THE Show in Long Beach next weekend in the Boardroom on the third floor.
Building on the success of the LS5/5 stand-mount monitor, Derek Hughes is promising us 7dB more bass at 20Hz from the LS5/5f over the original LS5/5.
From past experience, while the floor-stander is only spec'd at delivering an additional 5Hz of bass extension within +/-2dB. In-room, it certainly sounds more like 10hz of additional bass extension. There is noticeably more bass than its stand-mount sibling, though still the maintaining the LS5/5's wonderful bass texture.

According to the BBC's research, the addition of the slots around the woofers, allowed the speakers to perform as a narrower source, creating a wider horizontal dispersion pattern and resultant sweet spot. Improved vertical dispersion also made the speakers easier to position in a room. The slots also make the speakers easier to position in a room. Because these speakers were originally designed for engineers to monitor the audio signal behind a long mixing console, the speakers have a broad sweet spot. Off-axis listening is perfectly coherent.

These remarkable speakers deliver Midrange Magic in spades, without sacrificing any resolution in the process.
The LS5/5 has been our favourite Graham Audio loudspeaker since its release three years ago. Blame the pandemic on our inability to showcase this widely over the past few years.
The LS5/5f is 16" taller than the regular LS5/5. It will be available in oak, cherry, rosewood, walnut, or ebony. Partial grills (covering the drivers) will be available in off-white, brown, or black. Fasteners can be requested in black, stainless steel, or gold plated.
We expect the retail price for oak or cherry at less than $25k.

the LS5/5 are truly exceptional, they reproduce the piano with all the weigh, speed, dynamics and tonal colour that you would expect of a piano in your living room.
This year, we’ll drive the 5/5F with the Moonriver 404 Reference and a Bergmann Modi, air-bearing turntable with a Bergmann “Thor” linear tracking, air-bearing tonearm.

We have been using the Moonriver/ Bergmann combo with the Graham Audio LS8/1 at shows in Florida, Montreal & Chicago earlier this year,. That system won Best Sound of Show & terrific write-ups from all the major press.

Next weekend we’ll be previewing music from Demo XXIV; should be a fun weekend.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again…

Really enjoyed your room, Philip. It was a bit of a sanctuary for me. Very very happy with my LS5/5s, was excited to meet the newest version in the flesh too.

Agreed, that the LS5/5's are a better match in your size room. I was delighted with the 5/5 for the past three years, by far & away my personal favourite speakers. But the 5/5f is a better solution for medium to large rooms. We brought the speakers 14' out into the room, no wonder the speakers threw a wonderful, deep soundstage.
Delighted you are enjoying your 5/5 so much. Happy listening.

LS5/5f @ $24,995 in cherry or oak. Rosewood, walnut & ebony are available at a premium.
BTW, the production LS5/5f will have a tweeter adjustment switch, similar to that of the LS6f and the LS5/9f; at 0dB the switch is out of the circuit, at +1 or +2dB, the switch is in the circuit.
Happy listeninig

I've been a friend of Philip for at least 20 years. We are almost neighbors as we are but a 20 minute drive from one another. So it is always a delight for me when Philip invites me over to hear his latest and greatest. Suffice it to say I have heard every Graham speaker Philip has brought into the country and while I remain completely dumbfounded as to how they name their speakers, my favorite heretofore has also been the 5/5. It performed beautifully with all genres of music I heard played. For the price it was wonderful. Well no flies get to land on Philip as he always has his imagination going and yesterday I had the privilege of hearing the 5/5f played in his listening room

This new speaker is a floor stander and gains an additional 5db at the bottom end and this was immediately apparent as soon as Philip began playing music. Before I discuss the sound and the music played the first impression I had was visual. This speaker to my eyes was the nicest constructed Graham speaker I have seen. These were immaculately put together as there were no obvious seams as past models had. These also did not have that typical European style box speaker look. These had a beautiful finish and would show well in any listening room if WAF is an issue. Also Philip has modified the grills by shortening them such that they cover only the drivers. This created a very beautiful finished look. I was impressed by this new look

As to the sound I agree with Philip. The deeper bass sounded tighter and better defined but the midrange was exquisite. We listened to a few songs streamed from Philip's demo disks which I am the proud owner of al 24. Many are go to test tracks for me so I knew them well. For female voice Anette Askiva and for male voice Leonard Cohen, You Want it Darker. The reproduction of their voices with this speaker was spot on

The great thing about listening to music at Philip's house is to have access to his huge vinyl collection and vinyl was the topic of the day. Those who have attended audio shows and visited Philip's room, you will never hear the run of the mill tracks that are played in every other room. Philip has an eclectic taste and his choices always light up my ears

Here is what he played

Ekute Pinom Palladino from "Notes With Attachments"

I Got The T-Bone Walker Blues Roy Gaines from Best of Groove Note- 1 Step

When The Levee Breaks -Vanessa Rodriguez from Best of Groove Note -1 Step

You Go To My Head and Moonlight in Vermont -Lori Lieberman Truly

If you want to hear "mid range magic" Philip's system delivers

Now here's the kicker. His entire system comes in under $40K MSRP

His Moon River integrated amp now with an internal phono card never ceases to amaze me. And for vinyl Philip was playing his entry level Bergmann Modi with a pivotal tonearm (suffice too say in his downstairs main system Philip has the top of the line Bergmann Galder

Today however Philip was showing me that he can put together an amazing system for less money than the Bergmann Galder. I continue to marvel at the Moon River and Bergman Modi

As the price of gear continues to forever rise, Philip continues to be able to flesh out those products that for the money simply outperform all expectations.

As many have said, myself included that at any audio show I attend, Philip's room is always in the top 3

Kudos my friend
