I get that part but which ones

I believe the 2 on the right are not critical for single-ended operation.

I also seem to recall lukasz said the two in the right could be empty for SE use. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

In your post you seemed to indicate that the right sockets needed to be filled:

Lukas taught me something very interesting about the Horizon for those of us who use SE rather than balanced

He suggested that rather than using a quad set of power tubes(where the two power tubes on the right of center are for balanced ), that I take out those two good tubes on the right and fill those sockets with any cheap tube

How have you been doing it ?

I have been using an identical quad set even though I am running single ended mainly because I plan to go to balanced at some point.

It would be nice to make sure about the SE feature. I have some tube pairs I'd like to try but seems no one is 100% sure . Hopefully Lukasz can enlighten us

Yes. I know what was said however I do remember he said at my house that he thought for SE the right side could be empty. However he also said a cheap set of tubes on the right side would suffice

It just would be nice to try a pair to make sure one likes them before buying a quad . I will try this once I return home in few days . I know the Pacific was simple just leave them out . I'll just use some cheap tubes to be save .

That is also what I think I remember
I think I said it would be prettier if it was front/back like in the balanced Pacific instead of left/right in the Horizon and then Lukasz said the left/right thing makes more sense because of shorter circuits or something.

Yes, on my Pacific running SE, I only populate the tubes on the back end. No sense in burning up precious DHTs unnecessarily. When I run balanced, I use all tubes obviously. I don’t have a volume control on my Pacific by choice (30 years of experience with DACs with a volume control have left me with a distaste for them).

I was in Steve's Audio Room when Lukacz did say you really did not need anything on the right side for SE. For appearance's sake, any less expensive tube would do. But I would still have LF confirm again.

Thanks for confirming what I heard as well

It’s funny I’ve always second guessed yoda and since I could
change things myself.
oddly he still ended up knowing better. it seems to be me a lampi groupI some feel we get to play god a bit.
like in real life god is better to off being so then us mortals and we learn in our own failures
makes me wonder how many failures good yoda has to make Each new product be a level above past.
and this H is above past yet again

I think they are filled just for looks.
