UPDATE:

Today is day #4 of my Horizon journey. Between the settling of my CMS footers and the break-in of the new tubes and Horizon, the sound while better than my GG2, was lacking soundstage, cohesiveness and the "magic" that makes time stand still. I knew it would take a minute for everything to jell. Well....today is the day. Soundstage, balance, texture, bass and details are all in sync. I will be out of touch with the rest of the world for awhile. I am on self-imposed lock down until further notice. This DAC is fantastic! I'm rehearsing my answers to questions that my wife will probably ask me today below. Please feel free to chime in with advice or recommendations as needed

1. Will join us for dinner tonight?......NO
2. The dog needs to be walked and fed.............She can miss a meal
3. You're on call and need to go in for surgery.......it can wait
4. I have flat tire...Call AAA
5. Do you want to watch the football playoffs?.......NO

Enjoy my friend. It was really good seeing you at that famous event. I knew when you left that there was a Horizon in your future :p

I tried it briefly when I had the demo unit, and found I got more clarity by using Horizon as pre, but lost some dynamics / drive. I want to try this for a longer period
This is generally my experience as well, and while I need to investigate a bit more to be certain, I have found at least a couple data points to support the conclusion that the extent of the trade off between better transparency (without pre-amp) and better dynamics and soundstage (with pre-amp) can be influenced by small signal tubes. So ultimately one’s preference might be, at least in part, a function of tube choice.

In the for what it's worth category, I have found that SPDIF cables are better than USB for the H. I am using a Sternklang SPDIF cable and an FTA Sinope, USB cable. I find the Sternklang to have better resolution, detail, and clarity.

In the UK, log burners are now under the microscope regarding climate initiatives. No need for concern though if you have a Horizon which can handily double as a mini log burner! In addition to all the various inputs, outputs, preamp and tube options, it is a very flexible DAC indeed. Luckily, it sounds ok too. ;)

I'm listening to my TRP and love it but I'm sure missing my Horizon can't wait to get home . Side note the Lampi GM70 is sure a pleasure to listen to . This is my cottage system

didn’t know you have O96. They also work great with NAF 2a3, of many amps compared on them including Jadis integrated 100w, riviera hybrids, Silvercore 833c, airtight EL34, mastersound 845, airtight 300b, Kondo overture.

OCD is a strange thing - since I've seen somewhere mid of the year picture of the H in the color scheme I wanted to have from the get go (silver with copper top) I could not put it out of my mind. So with some David Copperfield magic, last week my heart and mind are finally at peace and the rack looks like I wanted it to look. Sound wise nothing to report as it plays as the first one played - actually no, this one plays better as it looks better to my eyes :D .
Simultaneously I received from Yoda in the same color scheme his new development Kraftwerk 8 power conditioner and I can not be more than happy with both together.
Great job Lukasz & the team and many thanks!

You won't demo it too long because you will keep it!

I’m stubbornly sticking to my Pacific as I like the sound of DHTs. Pentodes? Nah! Been there, done that.

Should try - you’ll thank us later.
BTW pentodes have other job in H - double triodes are the ones creating majority of magic..

That one looks great in silver Golum, very smart indeed. You must be delighted.

The Horizon is an exceptional DAC with tremendous flexibility. Everything has already been said about how good it sounds on here, but what struck me the most is the soundstage imaging. It is so deep and accurate that you can imagine walking into it and touching the instruments and shaking hands with the players. Just so realistic.

Last year when I was trying out and researching different DAC’s, I came across this which is an insanely detailed review of a few top DAC’s - including the Horizon which came out very well. Having listened to a fair few myself last year, I could not have anywhere near the patience to examine and write up like this.

Not sure how I found this, it may even have been posted on here. Apologies if that is the case.
