Using a pink faun ultra the usb is the way to go. better in every way compared to aes.
The good thing about this server is you can install a new usb/aes/? card in the future when a better one is developed. So your not stuck with the old tech down the track.

I have used the Pink Faun Ultra for a few years now and I am very happy with it.
I especially like Stylus and prefer it to Roon sonically. Bonus is its free and built it :)
If you have the opportunity try demo/listening to dual Ultra it is another big step forward...
I owned the R1. Tried a heap of amplifiers but the end of the day the loudspeaker was not enjoyable for long listening sessions in my experience. The mids/highs too coarse. Music selection shrank due to some recordings being unlistenable.

Interesting read but I wouldnt take any kind of conclusions from it. Its a look into one mans journey which is appreciated.
Im a big fan of using components in their native configuration. Using a single ended dac such as the Kassandra with XLR isnt ideal.

Recently I heard the ESE and im gobsmacked at what it manages to pull off.
