Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

@Christiaan Punter Christiaan, thanks for the details and insight on the USB and Ethernet cables as well as your comparative findings. Very helpful. Question: what were your findings on Ethernet + USB when evaluated as pairs for streaming? Do you have a combo preference / recommendation? Thanks.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Hi Engadin. My comparisons preceded the T+A SDV and Extreme, so I can't help in that regard.

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Emile, what are the scenarios where a dedicated (separate) network is generally beneficial? What are the reasons for this? Is it mainly / essentially try and decide? Thanks.

For those that want more detailed information on FLAC, here is a white paper from the British Library (content is in 'layman language'). I believe there were requests made in prior posts for "checking on the file" ... The section on 'Conformance Checking' provides a couple of software tools...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I would expect them to sound different, especially when local. As others have reported (including you), I also have a preference for WAV. I also find FLAC more variable. WAV is generally (not always) non-compressed. It was developed by IBM and Microsoft and is the 'preferred' format for...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Am I the only one having trouble understanding comparison of local files versus those (even when equivalent) fed from afar, over multiple lines, and any number of components in the chain...before arriving at the Taiko Extreme? I would not expect the results to be the same. The fact that they...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

@Steve Williams Thanks. The tube glow is very soft and diffuse. The white light, not so much. :)

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

Indeed. :) Scale isn't a factor in your setup. Nor video in line of sight. And yes, the Extreme is front and center and prominent, in my setup. The power/on light is an issue (especially at night) when I watch movies, etc. Given the provenance of my rack, floor positioning is superior for...

Taiko Audio SGM Extreme : the Crème de la Crème

I've chosen to place my Extreme on the floor. It's size results in it being out of scale, aesthetically, relative to my other components when on higher levels of the audio rack. Another factor that makes on floor placement a positive is keeping the lit (white) rectangle out of my sight line.

@rau I don't understand the reasons for disabling Roon updates given your prior statement: "to me Roon is sounding Superior to TAS" and the fact that XDMS has not been released (yet).
