    Are Transports Obsolete?

Apologize for not being clear. Meant to say that there are some very fine units pretty much confined to Japanese and Asian markets that are not well known elsewhere. These are separate from well known Esoteric, Luxman, Accuphase, etc, brands that have wide international distribution.

    Are Transports Obsolete?

My understanding is that CD/SACD media are still very much 'in' in Japan, which seems to be where most of the transport/player investment remains at a fairly high level (e.g., Esoteric, Luxman, Accuphase, etc, and others not distributed outside of Asian markets).

    Gryphon Diablo Integrated Amplifier Owners

Is the main power rocker switch (underneath the front panel) in the off position or in the standby position*? If in standby, the the red Gryphon on the front panel should be lit. If not, flip the rocker switch from off to standby. Is the red Gryphon lit? If so, you should then be able to...

    Has Magico lost its Touch?

    Has Magico lost its Touch?

Magico may not have been the first to use graphene coated carbon fiber cones in their midrange and bass drivers, but they were probably the most prominent. Their use of Aluminum honeycomb cores in their M9 and A5 mid and bass drivers is claimed to be a first and a major factor in these...

Shunyata Everest vs Audioquest Niagra 5000

Actually, in a 2m length, the US list for AQ Dragon HC is 9,800 (Firebird HC 2m is 5800; Hurricane HC 2m is 2500); whereas Shunyata Omega XC 2m is 7350 (Sigma V2 XC 2m is 3410). There is not a great price match between these two vendors in traditional 2m length. If you own your own home, you...

Shunyata Everest vs Audioquest Niagra 5000

OK, so what brand/model cables were used to attach the pre/DAC/source used with each conditioner?

Shunyata Everest vs Audioquest Niagra 5000

What about from the Everest to the amp? Is the amp the only thing attached to the Niagara/Everest? (I would expect preamps and source components to benefit most, as frequently the recommendation is to plug amp(s) directly into the wall and everything else through the conditioner.)

Shunyata Everest vs Audioquest Niagra 5000

What power cables were you using with each? I suspect that if you're using AQ PCs with the Everest, you will not hear what this unit can do. (I'm commenting as an AQ 5000/Hurricane owner with some interest in Shunyata's newer power products.)

    Any Esoteric fans here?

Both the K1X and the K-01XD will optionally take an external clock. The K1X will also take an optional external power supply. One dealer, whom I respect, believes that the clock adds more than the power supply for thise contemplating only one K1X add-on. There are big savings to be had with...

    Any Esoteric fans here?

Good points, RJ. It's the whole package and not just the DAC, although I believe the DAC change to be the most significant with the XD series. (And I should state that I have no experience with XS models.)

    Any Esoteric fans here?

Esoteric has made a complete change to the DAC technology used in their better players away from Akai chips, which they've used for generations, to their own discrete component designs (K1X, K-01XD, K-03XD). The sound is significantly more refined and tailorable with an expanded 3D sound stage...
