I'm thinking of buying a used CTH 8550 mk2 and had a few questions to ask of Dartzeel.
Their website contact form doesn't really seem to work...does anyone have an email address fir them?
Thanks

Hi Peter,
Yes, I'm fully aware of the solo - I have a set of 4 in my lounge (for surround sound duties).
My point was that the speakers in the picture don't look very much like any other solo I've seen.
This is what my solos look like:

Does anyone recognise these speakers?
They appear to be Solo's but are either modified or early prototypes?

I saw them here...
Hmmm, maybe I'm just mistaken then...mine is reading 25-30 and I'm pretty sure I can adjust the EF86 a little which increases the read-out.
I'll give that a go at the weekend.
Thanks,

The Aphrodite is fully balanced and uses the same tubes as the SWC1000 - plus another 4 Russian valves and 2 more 6922's (from memory).
The best way to describe the difference is as follows:
The SWC1000 using the highest quality NOS valves (including real WE417A's) sounds extremely neutral and...
Hi Christoph,
Yes, I've asked Herr Kühn for some advice - I'm waiting on him to check what the meter reading should be.
I've already replaced all the valves to see if that would change things - changing the 300B makes the meter reading change - but it's still way less than I expect.
Are you...
Hi all,
I have a Silvaweld SWC1000R pre-amp, supplied by Black Forest Audio in Germany, way back in 2003.
I've recently noticed that I'm having to turn the volume up more than I usually do. eg, Last year, volume number 18 was about as loud as I'd go with a CD source. Now, it's at volume number...
I use the XTZ mic and software - which is very easy to use. The mic points towards the speakers when measuring frequency response.
The mic has a calibration file for REW which I may use at some point - but at the moment, all I do is get simple frequency response charts, as I'm fairly simple ;-)
Yes, I always start at about 140 when adjusting the bass (225 subs) on the Duo's. Something to do with the midrange horn cut-off overlapping with the bass output even though both are supposedly steep (high-order?) slopes.
I do use a calibrated mic (well, calibrated when new ;-) and software to...
HI,
"Hear here" - yes, I saw your photos and thread re your upgrade to the frame...it's interesting and I'm sure could be easily modified to support different heights for the horns - as I think that's a very useful feature should you move or re-arrange things. I'm not sure I'd like to lose that...
