Have a look at this site for an example of an air bushing. The manufacturer of the bushing would specify the needed "clearance" between spindle and bushing along with a recommended air pressure.

Peter,
Do you know if there was any type of FEA done on the 3D models to find the one that controlled resonance the best? I would think it would be cost prohibitive to manufacture multiple samples for a listening test..
I'm assuming that a 300 series stainless was used for the platter as this...
As a Tool and Die Maker I really can appreciate the time and effort put into the CAD design, programming and the machining. As Lagonda stated the more I look at it the more I like it. Congrats David!
I have a stand alone motor assembly so I'll adjust belt tension to achieve the fastest speed the adjust the freq. to get to33.33 rpm. I think in my case too much tension puts too much of a load on the motor bearings thus slowing the platter down. I'm going to find my manual and play around with...
Peter,
Did you notice any differences when you did make adjustments to the voltage and frequency ? I built the DIY version of this speed controller that Bill made available on the DIY audio forums but I never played around with any of the adjustments.
Thanks,
Scott
