As a minor and a victim her name can't be used. Someone could figure it out.

In the past no one was equipped to deal with cases like this when the problem was child abuse. Now that there are such sanctions they're basically sitting around waiting for cases...

It's very difficult to have the law suited to deal with cases that are complicated to say the least - and I mean when something is actually wrong - and not being a useless entity 9/10th's of the year paid by tax dollars. They are literally trying to find cases to legitimize their department and further careers.

Are we better off or not, given this sort of potential? I don't know. My personal opinion is that things are utterly disturbingly wrong that no compensation and punitive measures have been given considering the enormous **** ups involved here. If things are that disturbingly wrong it shouldn't be passed off as if the only problem is they aren't screwing innocent people more often.

Agreed. And the lack of a legal recourse opens the door to vigilanteism, which would be terrible.

All of this has convinced me at this late stage in life to leave the US. I'm doing my earnest research to relocate my family, belongings and business operations to rural Japan. At least Japan doesn't raid you and steal your net worth for trading Bitcoins.

So next year, planned bike tour of Japan. Meet as many people as possible, make some contacts, maybe friends. Meet up with my existing friends in Japan (the smart ones who left the USSA 30+ years ago). Scope out real estate and learn about building codes and hiring contract builders. Immerse myself in the language and learn as much as I can. Research a good container shipping company in Japan. Hit all the hi-fi cafes along the way.

I was slowly coming to the conclusion that it won't be safe to remain in the USSA much longer, given the nation is committing cultural and economic suicide. Before it gets as bad as Venezuela is today, I need to get out. December's event was the spark that ignited this wildfire.

So the problem is selling a house that is considered a demolition candidate and is $70k in back taxes, has no proper electric feed, in ground oil tank, trash buried in the back yard from the prior owner, non-standard construction, no C of O and somehow get that money into Japan to cover the cost of land and construction. I contacted someone at GoFundMe and they think it's appropriate to set up a campaign to fund my move, so that may be the ticket. I'm entering a couple of free trip to Japan sweepstakes sponsored by Japanese agencies, so maybe next year's trip can be funded that way. The move will be tough.. I've been in the same house for fifty years and never thought I would move again before I pass on.

I hope you figure it out Mark. That is a tough equation to solve. I considered living for a few months in Japan but never came to pass. Love the food, most of the culture, the landscape and the experience. I am sure you will figure this out but in some rural areas foreigners are not as welcome as others.

The rural areas can vary. Some distrust foreigners, others are very friendly. My task is to find the right neighborhood.
The biggest obstacle of all is money, or lack thereof. I grossed about $9K last year, repairing amplifiers and recording one classical concert. My entire income went to pay property taxes. My wife's paid for food and utilities. So I'm either looking at winning a free trip by entering one of Japan's sweepstakes, or doing a GoFundMe campaign.

Start selling magic rocks and power cables. You'll get there. :D

Hmmm ten minutes later, my browser is asking me why I want to navigate away from this page. Duplicate post resulted.

I experienced the same occasionally Mark. It started roughly few months ago. It's a small glitch...not from our side. So you aren't the only one.
I have also seen duplicate posts from couple more members, attributed to this glitch.
________

Mark, I feel for you, and your family. And I pray with you...for a good outcome.
One day @ a time...people care...some...I'm with you.

There is indeed a glitch for which I submitted a work ticket a few weeks ago only to be told all is well. I resubmitted another ticket this morning for them to have a look again

I keep forgetting you have been there :). One area that I found most hospitable but darn cold was Hokkaido/Kushiro area. Never seen such helpful and friendly people.

On money, what happened to your video production work? Did that go away?

Hokkaido is subarctic climate. Honshu is the better area for less harsh winters. I want to be east of the mountain ranges, as they block most of the moisture. Shirakawa can be deep in snow til late April. I'm looking toward Fukushima or Iwate. Yamatsuri is a nice town in Fukushima. Mostly farms.

My recital recording work dried up after 2010, completely. I had one concert last April in New York, from a three time client. The symphony that I worked with for years is under new management and they have been getting awful recordings done (probably for free). But my passion for sound and high resolution imagery has not faded. I'm starting to delve into nature and wildlife video.

Steve, it is so minimal, and happens only rarely, that I truly doubt that they can find it or replicate it.
It only happens when I first post on a brand new day, for the first time or two...then after that it's ok.

A little message appears asking you if you want to navigate out of the page or remain on it.
I click on "remain", then click on the post "submit", then the message reappears. ...Click again on "remain", then "submit" and if lucky it won't reappears a third or fourth time.
This never happened in the past; it is only recently (couple months or so) that it started behaving like that occasionally.

My reply to Mark was only to reassure him that he wasn't personally experiencing it...nothing else.
I've seen much worse than that from other sites, and I reported the issue...(double posting glitch); it took almost a year to fix, but fixed it they did. :b
Here that issue is not even 2% of what was over there. And the other issue, @ the other site, I doubt that it would be ever resolved...the painful slowness...due to multiple animated advertising and heavy daily traffic. Here zero problem of that sort; 1. No advertising. 2. No heavy traffic.

Anyway, I wouldn't sweat it too much, but thx for letting them know.

Mark's real issue is the serious stuff. When you start thinking about switching countries (continents), it isn't like switching interconnect cables.
It is a peace of mind that we are hoping for all our families; and that, is a world thing. It is part of life, and Mark I'm sure is in need of that peace of mind.
I can only offer my support and understanding; that, he has from me. Anyone going through rough times I will support them.

Sadly I never made it to Fukushima prefecture. Looked up Yamatsuri and saw some really nice images by the river:
