I am not a LP audiophile but recently have listened to a Soulnote E-2 phonostage at a friend's home.
Not expensive but very well built.

Most Interesting is that there are old curves for vintage LPs.

My friend demoed a vintage Argo Label Noah Ark LP to me. The standard RIAA vs Argo curve had huge diff and the latter gave much much better sonics!

Actually, even with modern LPs, the Soulnote was overall better yet cheaper than my friend's Lamm LP2.1 Deluxe.

Is this made by DS Audio of cartridge fame?

I am not sure but E-2 does have a separate input dedicated to optical cartridges made by DS Audio.

In fact my friend is now itchy to buy a DS Audio DS-W2 optical cartridge.

My Soulnote E-2 phonostage owner friend took the plunge and bought a DS Audio DS002 optical cartridge :

It was installed onto his Zorin Audio turntable+tonearm combo :

The OPT light of his Soulnote E-2 Phonostage lighted up!

Thanks for the report CK, I have just bought the E2 and am so pleased with its performance. I am also curious of the performance of DS- optical cartridge on the Soulnote E2 as I am considering to buy one too. Any comments?

Since a view days I am enjoying the Soulnote E-2 phonostage.

In the front line of my listening room are 4 turntables placed,
which I change from time to time. the most of them are a kind of vintage, like Kenwood L-07, Basis Debut or Technics SL-1000mkii

The last year an Allnic H-5000 was in heavy use, but as 8m of interconnect to the preamp need to be driven, I started to look for a phonostage with xlr connections and 4 inputs plus a powerful outputstage to drive long cables.

on one of the small local high end fairs I became aware of Soulnote and liked the presentation a lot. The sound reminds me to my beloved phasemation gear, but with 4 inputs plus full power xls outputs.

Compared to my former Allnic the Soulnote is a heavy 20kg beast, like a huge integrated amplifier.

the unit comes with interchangeable feets, I have chosen the classic spike version.

the manufacturers philosophy ( can be found on the manufacturer url) behind the E-2 is a long and interesting read and gave me some inspiration to understand audio component design better.

Connecting the E-2 showed me, that one of the phono inputs is for DS-Audio carts only, which means, than I can use currently only 3 of the inputs.

it looks like, that I have to install a DS Audio cart sooner or later to connect all 4 turntables.

my first listening impressions are very positive and do meet my expectations from the fair performance I had in my mind.

The tone is more to the warmer and solid side, than to thin and analytical, the E-2 sounds in a very positive way like a very good tube Phonostage.

As the E-2 shall like low impedance carts, I do have a 1,5ohm TechDAS (my sonic lab OEM) cart connected, as well as an old low output Ortofon SL15 MKII.

Both carts do work very fine with the E-2.

The last cart connected is the Ortofon Anna, which shows, that the E-2 can handle more analytic carts as well. the Anna still plays like an Ortofon cart with all the character you would expect.

now I will wait for some more hours of music listening to understand the Soulnote E-2 even better.

My local dealer has just taken on this brand and has the E2 phono stage, at some point in the near future I am going to go and have a listen and see how it compares to my Lab 12 Melto2

Shakti,

would you be so kind and share your impressions of Soulnote E2 after using it for couple of months and comparison to Allnic.

Thanks.

the Soulnote E-2 is playing so well, that I just forgot the unit. It is playing with no hustle with all cartridges I choose.

Which is different to Allnic, which prefers carts meeting the Allnic Step Up ratios, so high impedance carts, like Benz LP-s and Soundsmith have not worked with Allnic.

The Soulnote E-2 is better than Allnic 5500 Phono, more in the region of the Allnic 6500 Phono,
which meets roughly the German retail price points for this two Phonostages

Soulnote E-2 and Allnic 6500 are both very transparent, so it depends on your individual carts, which phono you might prefer.

E-2 has a lot of MM gain (above 50db), so this is fine for many High or medium output MC carts or some of the 1mv / 47kohm Grado cartridges.

If you like Mono LP's you might like the different setup to get the right curve. The manual gives a lot of recommendation how to use the E-2 in this regard.

There are some carts out there, which I prefer on Step Ups, like Koetsu , MSL derivatives and others, than the Allnic 6500 is the better choice.

For DS-Audio only E-2 will give you the connection.

But then there is the Allnic 7000. And i assume you are referring with the recti changed.

Allnic phono models suffixed with the letter V have the different curves for old monos and mono flexibility

Allnic 7000 is more than double price and better than Allnic 6500 and E-2

Have not yet seen the offer, to order Allnic 5500 or 6500 as "V" version.
(maybe not imported to Germany)

Ok I see did not know about the pricing difference. Allnic 7000v can be bought around 8k euro and sold easily with minimal or no loss

Just picked up a Soulnote E2 over the weekend for my mono setup. This is the ultimate phono stage for mono with the flexibility of customizing the curves for various mono records. wouldn't have thought how big the difference would have been. Currently a miyajima Infinity mono hooked up to it. Good tone, good dynamics, near silent and a little on the tubey side.

I really like some features of this stage, but no local dealer.. Wonder if it remembers settings for each input or you have to "redo" it every time you switch.. I could not find an answer in a manual I read online...
