Near Atlanta, GA but not too near!

Excellent processor choice. Atmos/DTS:X and Upsampling is fun.

Speaking of fun, we just finished watching The Island. I'm not sure how that one ever escaped my radar. I loved the story, the music, the action, and up-sampled to my ceiling speakers, made it even more fun.

Thanks again for pointing this movie out to me. Even my wife enjoyed it (and we both could see something like that actually happening if the present world lasts long enough!!)

Have to bring that one up again in the not to distant future.

Alita: Battle Angel ... 3D Blu-ray versus 4K UHD Blu-ray.

I personally like both versions. But the Atmos audio from the 4K disc is definitely superior.
That's a big plus, because audio matters.

The film itself I already rated it (another site); it's like a CGI computer game: 68
In real life we need all young girls to be like Alita; kicking the a$$ of all those worst low life.

The 3D is very good, but not among the best. I was a bit surprised here I admit, coming from Robert Rodriguez in collaboration with James Cameron. Some scenes are better than others but all backgrounds are always flat...long shots.
And there is none of those elements breaking the screen's borders...pop outs as they are called.
It's a discreet 3D experience, very. ...Reserved, without taking risks.

The 4K picture is also very very good, but not among the best either.
Some scenes I really love, others not so. It's a Robert Rodriguez style for kids, and it's lacking consistency in technical merits. It's like . . . incomplete, rushed in, in both 3D and 4K.

The audio is dynamic, both versions, but Atmos is truly the way to go with more precise impact and accelerated virtuosity. The bass (LFE channel) is powerful in both versions, but cleaner, less blooming from the 4K Atmos version. They are both good; Atmos superior by about 12% (that's a considerable advantage).

The 3D visuals: 76
The 7.1 DTS-HD MA audio soundtrack: 79

The 4K Dolby Vision picture: 81
The Dolby Atmos audio soundtrack: 91

Those are my eyes and ears and gear and room and setup and disposition and judgement and personal intimate flexible free independent impression. They are in no way the reflection or influence of anyone else but only me. Films are like music; they are different for each person living on planet Earth, just over 7.7 billion of us.

The Island to me is a modern day (not so modern anymore) Logan's Run. Will watch either anytime. If ScarJo is in it I will watch it. We used to play the scene with the train wheels rolling off the semi trailer as demo material at a Home Theater shop I worked at a number of years ago. Great soundtrack and the Wally Yacht at the end, hell yeah!
Entertaining flick!

Don't Know!

I saw a film called 'Something In The Air':

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1846472/?ref_=nv_sr_2?ref_=nv_sr_2

It's not really that good but at one point our hero is slowly looking through his album collection - Kevin Ayers, Gong lots of 'cool' albums from the period - 1968) - before he alighted on a copy of Syd Barrett's 'Madcap Laughs'. He then chooses the first track, 'Terrapin'. I didn't note what gear he used!

First time ever I'm just hearing it from you. It doesn't seem to have that "Hollywood" fatal movie attraction. But then it's French.

I watched La La Land on dvd tonight & really enjoyed it. I was very surprised to find out Baz Luhrmann didn't direct the film as it has his directorial signature. Ryan Gosling and Emma stone bounce off each other well & the story just kind of hooks you in. But it's the great score which seals the deal.

La La Land is a refreshment, a breeze of fresh air and romance compared to say ... Alita, and all the Marvel flicks, and Star Trek, and Quentin's flicks.
_____

Last night I revisited Martin Charles Scorsese with Leo ...

Masterfully executed, grossly underrated, Leo in top form, premium cast, ...a film for the brain with the highest replay value. They just don't make them like it anymore.
It's a bit turbulent @ times, so caution should be exercised by the most sensitive audiences.
Rated AA (Appropriate Audiences)

Everything a movie afficionado can get addicted by is in it.
...The music score, the cinematography, the storyline, the acting, the cast, the decor sets, the premises, the tension, the brain extension, the atmosphere, the island, the ocean, the rain, the weather, the chops chops (acting skills), ...you jazz name it...including classical Gustav Mahler.

Overall (film only...story, acting, ...): 90
Technical merits (visuals and sounds and music score): 90
Replay value: 100

* Last word: A Must See if you haven't, and more than once...make that multiple times.
Next time I see it my overall score should climb higher ...

I watched this last night ->
https://www.redbull.com/us-en/iron-cowboy-50-marathons-50-states-50-days

It was on Netflix. I was going to watch The Great Hack, but I ended up watching 50-50-50 instead.

Some humans are strange animals; there is a full story behind this documentary...this Iron Cowboy.
The more you learn the more it adds up ...

Overall: Recommended (70)

Last word: Talk about determination, endurance and .....

Two times; by itself, consecutively with Infinity War.
I've seen them all...all Marvel comic flicks and superheroes.
This one has the most emotion level of all.
It's half human half ...

Watching Endgame is like watching your family, it's fun, sure is.
No it's not 3D Blu-ray Avatar...it'll have to wait a little bit more for that...soon.

Talk about loaded! They even included a kitchen sink...look catefully in one of the scenes and lo and behold you can see it in the left back corner of the ship.
Everyone was invited to the party, and all skills were on full display.
The colors are flying all over, eyes illuminating like lightening bolts, and the couches trembling and shaking with the music sounds. They even served fresh hot tacos.

Overall (everything...light, picture, action, mikes): 88
That also includes the facial expressions and the words spoken ... the full enchilada experiment.

There is nothing conventional about Endgame, zero controversy...it's all in minutiae details of live action, actor's emotions, CGI renditions, sound effects, science fiction demolitions.
There is even humor, about that!

It's three hours that went by very smoothly, no major boredom.
It all makes sense @ the end following Infinity War; you can't ask for better than that.
The orchestra is in top form.

Technically it's a mix of everything; from the spaceships landing, the real decor sets, the CGI battles @ night, the makeups, mascara, costumes, vocal intonations, vroom vroom vibrations, woof woof inclinations. It's slow (meetings) and it's fast (action), it all flows.

Am I a Marvel's fan? You betcha, but not as much as I am a Bond's fan.
It's just that I am who I am, my age and intellect. I'm in the movies, no matter sci-fi, fantasy, western, comedy, love story, real true story, detective story, drama, thriller, horror, adventure, action, ...all. ...Marvel included...Batman, Robin, Zorro, Superman, Badman, Goodman, Uglyman, Ultraman, Pantherman, Wonderwoman, Catwoman, ...all men and women.

Last word: Recommended for the awesomeness bunch of our gentle comic book superheroes.
Avengers: Endgame is the ultimate culmination, period.
It's not quite Avatar (close though, not the full cigar) but @ least it beat it up worldwide @ the box office; it has to mean something...$$$ plus all the fans, the previous ten years and the script.
Enjoy, it's quite a ride in its own right.

My favorite PIXAR animated flick.

Overall (film, technical audio and visuals): 99

There isn't much to add; it's the best for all ages.
It's dynamic, it has punch, vitamins and zest.
What better than a favorite on the latest format, 8K?

I'm sure everyone have seen it. In case someone has not, supremely recommended.
