Just picked up a Tandberg 3000X still in the box. NOT New but I give it a 9 out of 10 for condition. Has been repaired at some point. Waiting for a new belt. Question is do the vu meters only light up and register output in record mode? Thanks!

I had another Tandberg R2R model. The meters should also light up / move during playback. I believe this is standard OP for all tape decks.

Thanks. Will have to open it up and see what the issue is. Strange they don't light up and register any movement during playback.

The ones on a 3000X I once had didn't either...only in record mode the meters lit and registered. However, on the 3600X I (later) used: the meters functioned "normal" (indicating playback and record level).
