The Ascona to me has more substance and weight than the CA but the tone arms and caryridges are very different so it's probably not a fair call although it might be true. Shane uses the same tone arms and seems plenty happy with it I think.

I haven't heard the top Thales arm but the next one. The table is still the same and consistently light sounding. Yes the Ikeda has weight, for sure

Mine is the simplicity 2 like Shane, not the Statement.

You heard more substance and weight on the Ascona- Ikeda, so you realized part of what you like. That sound is available, and the lack of substance and weight, avoidable.

Shane's arm is on a TW. The TW has some weight

Hi! I'm new her. Got the Ikeda G9ss silver running in the Stainless Steel Glanz 12" arm. It's a killer combo on my Platine Verdier. Have tried it in Ikedas own arm, as well in my DV 507 mk. II.

So how did it sound on your Ikeda? Was it a 12 inch or 9 inch Ikeda?

I had the Ikeda 407 at home, when reviewing the 9Gss. It's a very good arm, but it is alu - not stainless steel like the FR64 and FR66. I had the older arms as well as the FR64fx (sold them). I wanted the same "feeling" as the FR66 and that is what i got in the Glanz MH124S 12". I reviewed both - first the 9Gss and then bought the silver version, and later the Glanz arm.

Both reviews are on my site - it is mostly in Danish, but the two reviews have been translated to something resembling english ;o)

I have tried the Ikeda 9Gss in my Triplanar as well as in my DV 597, but i feel that the Glanz is more "solid" and has better grip on the cartridge.

Thanks Janils, can you please explain by what you mean by the "feeling" with FR 66s?

Easy! You have the same feeling with the FR64 and the Glanz. Some of it with the DV 507. It is solid, call it heavy or stable. You can feel it when you lift the arm and place the cartridge over the record. Its a feeling of "correctness" close tolerance bearings, and something that just works correctly.

So given I have the Thales, what cartridge could make it sing Ked?
Hi howie,
i had the simplicity for a long time on both my TechDas TT, the AF3 and the AF3P, and a friend of mine have it also on his AF3 and now on his AF3P he bought from me,
we tried a variable cartridges with the Thales arm, (note that ked talking about the Thales set with their TT and arm, and you have only the arm on a deferent TT)
btw - i had the master innovation also in the past with 2 of their own arms, so i know your TT also. i replaced my Brinkman balance for it (i find the the CA more crystal clear, fast and resultative)

my friend and I had mounted the Thales the following carts along the years -
Ortofon anna, ZYX omega, Universe and others... DS AUDIO ds002 and the W2, murasakino sumile, EMT j series, My sonic lab Gold, sorts of koetsu, sorts of Miajima, and many more... o_O

i ended up with my ANNA on my Thales till i replace all my analog rig a few months ago, especially for classical music.
the thales and Anna gave me the balance and accuracy to listen to my LPs at ease and with out coloration. inner groove are great and clear.
but i kept a second (and third most of the time) for more involving, drive and passion occasions.

my friend ended up with the MSL Gold, he said its the best cart he mounted on his Thales.
he also got the DS Audio w2 mounted on another arm for super tracking his classical lps.

i also think the Thales arm need a more involving passion cart to get it out of its skin a bit, the linear geometry and the swiss precise craftsmanship need to get some power in it to sing, so, i can suggest the MSL cart's or the murasakino sumile that i absolute LOVE! (it ended up to be on my ikeda 407 when i had it)

Thank you. Alas my Simplicity II went with my CA master innovation a while back. The Thales/Anna/CA combo never really did it for me. I think you are right in that the Thales needs a more involving cart, at least for me, to sing.
