Hey everyone. Glad I found this forum/thread. There seems to be sooo many posts out there bashing Magico. I just don't understand it. Never from anyone who've owned their speakers, only those who've "heard them before". I guess they can't afford them and thus, think they're overpriced? Anyway, I'm going to audition these speakers soon. I wanted to hit up Magico since they're only an hour away from where I live but alas, no demos/tours for the rest of the year due to Covid. But when I called them, the marketing guy asked what I'll be feeding them with and said my Ayre gear plays extremely well through the Magicos. So that was good to hear. @Rhapsody, thank you for posting this! I enjoyed reading through all the responses here.

Hi Audiom3,

Welcome to WBF:)

Please do get to hear the Magicos if possible. I think you will see that if set up properly they are wonderful speakers.

I was auditioning the dynaudio C60 2-3 years ago and the salesman was really reluctant to sell me on the speakers so I asked him 'why aren't you telling me about these speakers?' His answer 'Magico is coming out with a $10k pair of speakers in another month or so and I don't want you coming back here yelling at me!'. Yes he was also a Magico dealer and if you go by Axpona possibly their biggest dealer. I never took Magico seriously because I could never afford them and for that reason I never gave them a listen so I still have no idea how they sound, but looking at the materials list the A series sure looks like it competes with the other top brands dollar for dollar.

The A series are pretty good, you should give them a listen when you get a chance.

I also never understood the hate (assuming its genuine). I think a lot of people either don't hear them set up properly, have not heard their more modern upper tier designs or simply just like to hate on pricey gear. There are a plethora of people that hate on pricey gear even if it performs well (ie. Audio science review, SBAF etc.).

Hi guys,

I am starting to look at the Magico line and I'm trying to research their offerings. There are four lines with a few speakers per line, so it's difficult to figure out what all the differences are. There are no comparison tools on their website as far as I can see, but maybe I missed it.

Is there someplace I can go where someone has posted a comprehensive sort of explanation of the technology and pricing across all these lines? It's clear that the "M"s are at the top and the "A"s at the bottom but from what I can see the pricing is vastly different. It's hard to figure it out.

Sorry if these are dumb questions answered elsewhere. I am running a Pass X600.5 that can drive basically anything.

Thanks.

The M series has replaced the Q series which was the top of the line before the M.

The S series is the middle series. A bit more generous in the bass and not the same level of transparency , aesthetics or structural bracing.

The A series is the value line. Trickle down technology with focus on bang for the buck sonics that sacrifice some luxuries such as curved cabinets etc.

I wouldn’t. It was really part of their V series. The V3 was their big success in terms of reviews. I had the V2 and while it had superb midrange it was so rolled off in the highs you’d never associate it with a Magico of the last decade.

I just got in a Pilium Leonidas integrated and had not played the Pilium prior with the A5's. A few quick videos for a few people that have asked for this combination.

Sadly, due to all of this Covid mess, I could only find one dealer who had the A5s in and would audition them. It was a few hours away but also in a house. So I didn't feel comfortable going into that environment and so I passed on A5s without even being able to hear them. I know they would have been fantastic speakers with their tech, enclosures and awesome drivers. But alas, I ended up going the safe route and bought new Legacy Focus SEs in Curly Maple. They sound awesome but I'll always wonder how much better the A5s would have sounded. Maybe in the next year or two after this mess has been cleaned up (hopefully for good), I'll have another opportunity.

Congrats on your new speakers! Hope you love them and they work out well for you. Stay safe!
