Kingrex, all good points. My power is in the process of being optimized, I have upgraded my digital chain with more on the way. I'm not saying that it will compete with the Taiko, but a properly implemented Sonore Signature Rendu with optical isolation is quite good. Compared to a MacBook Pro the SQ improved MANY levels. Day and night difference.

Okay. I have room, can lift, have budget. So, what is best dac for this behemoth?
Why don't you get a Nagra HD DAC X ? seems pretty obvious looking at your gear.

Thanks to everyone who has answered. I have a bit of a limitation on rack space. Vivaldi stack won't work. Rossini would be my DCS option. I think it is between the MSB Select II and MSB Reference. If I get the Select II it might sound as good as the Nagra HD Pre Amp. The Total DAC 3 box system might work. I need to check dimensions. Same for CH C1. And of course it appears that I have no choice but to buy the Taiko.

Has anyone heard MSB Select II vs Nagra HD X DAC vs Total Dac D1 12 Mk2 vs CH 1 or any subset of these comparisons. With CH precision C1 vs C1 Mono. Do I also need their clock.

So no one here is going to talk me out of buying this thing........... ;-)
When does one audiophile ever talk another audiophile out of spending a lot of money? Why shouldn't my pain be your pain also?

Seriously, it seems that nobody who has ever bought an Extreme has regretted their decision, and for good reason. Sound quality, build quality, company quality, company service, continued commitment to be the best....there is no box that doesn't get checked when you buy an Extreme.

The XLFs were designed using the DCS Vivaldi it would be a good candidate - and I know of a few Nagra HD users using the Vivaldi DAC. Using the Extreme you can use it without the upsampler - I know of some Vivaldi/ Taiko owners that do not use it.

for what it's worth; i bought the MSB Select II 30 days after having the Nagra HD Dac in my system a few years ago. i think that was the previous version of the Nagra HD X. my feeling then was that the Nagra HD was not in the league of the MSB Select II. the MSB was much more relevant to my vinyl and tape than the Nagra and it had a different level of refinement and see into and around musical presentation.

you dont need their clock. a clock like the cybershaft op21a will work well with it and save you a few shekels. look at your incoming power supply - the gear works best when your optimise the power.

Mike, thanks that is very useful info about Nagra vs MSB. FYI the dealer likes Vivaldi slightly more than Nagra. He didn't have a Nagra in stock for me to compare.
As for the Wadax.......just, no.
