I share your commentary - simply absolutely stunning and exhilarating. An incredible feat of engineering. As you said, they disappear like nothing I have ever heard - ever.

They are as close to real life as one could imagine with unbelievable dynamics and simply amazing sound staging and air about the instruments and vocals. And I agree - the addition of a sub would not even be a consideration, particularly for fear of smearing the perfect tonal balance they present. The bass is so very deep, tight and responsive - amazing.

You always hear folks describing how they hear things they hadn't heard before - and I've said the same, but until you hear the M9's, those words were meaningless... these things extract so much nuance and detail.

I agree, these are clearly "the" new reference. Period. The MSB Select DAC and Taiko Audio SGM Extreme are a perfect match for this caliber of equipment.

That's an interesting comment about sub woofers as on another WBF thread, there seems a general consensus that the best flagship speakers all have massive separate bass towers. I wonder if anyone visiting Magico and hearing these M9s has asked for the Q subs to be turned on during the demo or if Magico is designing new M subs.

I have never heard the MSB Select DAC or the Taiko streamer, but I have always wanted to hear statement speakers with a top analog front end. Alon is a vinyl guy and used to have a turntable in that demo room, but I guess he took it out. I actually wonder what SOTA turntable he would want to use with his flagship statement creation: vintage or current? Perhaps he prefers digital now.

I was under the impression that Alon has always preferred digital.

Probably "Bob the builder" pushing them!
I don't have to push them, all one has to do is take a listen. Besides they are too heavy to push:)

I decided to get the Q Subs because they are the perfect match for the Q7 MK II's. The speakers sound more relaxed, the bass goes deeper and sounds more powerful and the imaging and resolution also improve. I am very happy with the addition of the Q-subs. As good as the Q7 MK II's are, the subs make a pretty noticeable improvement.
Thank you! Good to know.

Update:

I had an opportunity to hear the system again today, after the Taiko Audio USB card upgraded, and even though it only had about a day of burn in, it just ceases to amaze me how the improvements just keep on going with this system. You'd think it would reach a limit, but it doesn't!

I have had the privilege of hearing the M9's at various stages of development, starting at the end of last June, which was impressive, but nothing like it is now. I was listening to a live jazz recording - one of those with lots of spaciousness, where you hear silverware clacking on plates as the crowd enjoys a meal at a jazz club - it's realistically startling, with so much ambience... you just feel like you are immersed in a live venue, right up and close to the artists. My take on the new SGM USB card was that it further helped make the female vocals even more palatable and smooth, and once again, it opened up the soundstage even further. I can't wait to hear it after full burn in.

I think the thing that stuns me the most, in addition to the speakers "completely" disappearing, is in the smoothness of the 6 drivers - how they blend so beautifully as a whole, and truly make it seem like a live venue. Combined with an immense sound stage, and what seems to be an effortless presentation, your mind plays games with you, making you really think you are "there."

Then I came home... :(... oh well, at least I found that the Taiko USB card had been delivered today, so I'm looking forward to that experience in my system.

I've heard many speakers utterly disappear, generally monitors with dual drivers. It is far more difficult for a multi-driver, full range speaker to do the same. The Von Schweikert Ultra 11s did that for me. They're less than half the Magico M9 price. The Ultra 9s are the largest speaker I need at $200K so the M9s would probably be too large as well. Glad you enjoy your music.

Initial TAS article by Wayne Garcia, from TAS. Alon is now doing demos with the M9s so there will be additional articles available in the future.

Oh yeah baby! I have a trip down to visit Alon on the 29th of this month to hear these bad boys with all that glorious Pilium gear.

Now where is that "wipe drool off my face" emoji?

Great photograph. Thank you for posting Bob. It looks like there are a lot of new diffusion panels on the side walls. I don’t remember those when I went to visit a number of years ago. It’s an incredible room and extremely quiet.

It’s very interesting to see those steel plates under the amps right on the floor. I like their approach to racks and platforms with the heavy steel mass loading.
