I'm still waiting on my second Moderna shot!

BTW, just curious- why not apply the tweaks on both Ethernet ports?

Yes that would've been the easiest way, however that has a negative effect on sound quality, even though that other port is left unused!

Yes that’s how it should look if it was updated remotely, you are using the “Tweaked Ethernet” connection.

Extremes which shipped after 25-06-2020 have labels LAN1, LAN2, Fiber with an inclusion in the manual to use LAN1 as on the screenshots I posted.

Switch Breakthrough !

Earlier this week, Emile had another in the shower moment which resulted in him finally cracking the Network Switch Nut.

I heard the Switch last night in the big demo room with the Caravaggio’s. The difference the Taiko Switch makes is as jaw dropping as the Taiko USB card was but in a totally different way.

The Taiko switch opens a whole new level to the texture of the instruments and voices and raised my realism index to a new sonic stadium that I never thought would be possible. For my ears and brain, it was another, I can’t believe I am hearing this moment, and I gave Emile a High Five. All of my test tracks were jaw dropping.

A huge takeaway and complete surprise, was unplugging the network cable actually degraded the sound quality.

The tempering news is however, in these Challenging times of parts availability and awfully long delivery lead times, it will take some time to get the product to market.

Great news! Can you clarify a few points please?
Was this streaming qobuz and how did this network stream compare to local file playback?

Great news, Ed and Emile. Though I'm not sure why I "liked" your announcement above -- I can already hear the sound of dollar bills flying from my wallet.

Seriously, though texture, realism and jaw-dropping are all good things. Put me in the queue for one.

Both Streaming and Local File have been transported to the new sonic stadium

I did not have a chance to A/B the same file local and streamed

The good news is the project for developing an infrared remote control to turn the network connection on and off has now been been put on indefinite pause

This is a remarkable breakthrough, but also a shift of paradigm, the only hypothesis that comes to my mind is that an open lan port somewhat interacts positively with the CPU, possibly by maintaining a constant but low load? Scratching my head at this one…

Ed, is the switch powered externally or is it built into the switch?

I realize this is not a finished design.

That's very intriguing @EuroDriver . Please let us know if this result also holds in the DAVE/DC4/SRC-DX/PGGB room.

As one of the originators of this feature request, I agree it makes sense to put this on indefinite hold.

Emile and I are proposing alternative explanations to one another every couple of hours LoL

This is so new, it will take quite a few days if not weeks for the dust of ideas and theories to settle

Very exciting development. I wonder if the switch will have an SFP port?

If this is not a matter of 'preference' (like with the choice of switch), perhaps it makes more sense as an ethernet card- no more worry about SFP module, about power source, and so on.

Not directly, and you may still prefer Fiber. What has changed is the discovery of the potential damaging effects of a cable shield connecting a switch to the server. This has been a plus for Fiber as that obviously lacks a cable shield connection. So if you compared Fiber to Copper in the past using a network cable with a connected shield and preferred Fiber, it may be worth it rerunning that comparison which can be done on the cheap by using a standard Cat5e cable.
Does anyone know if Sablon cables are shielded or not?

Congrats on the switch breakthrough! Incredibly enticing and what a major development. These showers are legendary. Looking forward to tickets to the sonic stadium.

Fantastic News Ed!
As you know I was tweaking my network switches for more than a year.
This was my major focuse as I was able to get so much more out of extreme than with
„standard recommended” setup.
Some form this forum were questioning my findings and mentioning This cannot be true
or they like it as it is and they see no reason to change anything.

Knowing that the Real benefits are hidden in switches I was very dissaponted with few info
notes that Taiko switch was not a priority (as it was not improving SQ in Taiko setup).

I am so happy Emile found a little Time to experiment with that.
That will be amazing to see his imput into the network switch design.
Cant wait to see Taiko Switch or a Taiko network card .
The best would be to have BOTH !

We all will benefit from that.

I too have seen gains from network improvements even with the new USB card. Perhaps it comes down to where you stay? I stay in an apartment block surrounded by other apartment blocks, there are at least 15 other wifi networks my phone can detect at any one time.

For those members who find no difference in network or see no reason to change anything, I’m envious, and I guess they’ll save their $$ on upgrading to this new network development.

For me, I’m not that fortunate...

The problem of having too many options is a blessing and a curse. In my system LAN with the outstanding Sablon 2020 has the density of a Saint Emilion 2014, which is just exhilarating, and Fiber with the Finisar 1321 has the freshness and roll of a Sancerre, notwithstanding the width, depth and height of the GoT wall. This conendrum I can only thank Emille and Ed for having, but I might just go back to enjoying a drink as I just can’t make any constructive decision :)
